Working as a Cashier

A cashier may function in the following ways:

  • Collecting payments by cash, credit or debit cards or through automatic debits
  • Giving out receipts to customers who have made payments for goods and services
  • Giving refunds to customers who request such
  • Counting and checking cash in the drawers at the beginning of a workday to ensure that cash amounts are correct and there is enough change available
  • Operating electronic equipment and tools like scanners and others that are used in the process of carrying out their duties
  • Making sure the cash register is balanced at the end of a workday
