The minimum requirement to work as a front desk agent is a high school diploma or equivalent. Although not required, an associate's or bachelor's degree in hospitality, business administration or a related field can enhance an applicant's resume. Industry-specific certifications offered by community colleges or hospitality organizations, are also available. One example is the Certified Front Desk Representative certificate from the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
As a front desk agent, you are required to have strong customer service skills, including friendly and effective communication and prompt response time to customer inquiries. Necessary technical skills include mathematics, computer literacy, and knowledge of organizational protocols and requirements.
