How to become a HVAC Technician

To gain employment as an HVAC technician, candidates must obtain proper certification from an accredited college or trade school. Post secondary education is usually 6 months to 2 years, with the option of following through with an apprenticeship program for about 3 to 5 years. It's important to practice the trade and gain as much experience as possible, especially if there is a desire to work as an independent contractor. Some HVAC technicians eventually choose to specialize in certain areas of the field, such as new build installation.
