There are no specific educational qualifications to work as a packer. However, you can start work with a retail, distribution or manufacturing company as a packer through a warehouse operative intermediate apprenticeship. You can also apply directly for packer jobs. Companies may, however, ask you to complete an assessment to verify your practical skills before you are employed.

As a picker or packer in a warehouse, you have a duty to accurately retrieve goods that have been ordered, tightly wrap them and prepare them for shipment. In small warehouses, one person can do both jobs of picking and packing. In bigger warehouses, workers can rotate picking and packing duties.
