Sales representatives sell products and services to customers. They discover what the customers want and propose solutions to conclude sales. Sales representatives look for new sales leads in business directories or through client referrals. In some cases, they focus on inside sales, involving "cold calling" for new clients in an office. In other cases, they do outside sales, visiting clients in the field and deal with new or existing clients. Sales representative positions combine inside and outside sales.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives is expected to grow 2% until 2028. Employment growth is expected to be stronger for those working for independent sales agencies.
Sales representatives can work from home given they have the necessary resources. A quiet home office set up, laptop and phone will be necessary, along with software that allows for virtual collaboration.
