What is a system engineer?
A system engineer is in charge of monitoring the performance systems which are tied to the operations of a business. This job position can be found in multiple industries including software development, robotics, nanotechnology or civil engineering. It's up to the system engineer to ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure is available along with the highest level of performance.

There is no national requirement for this position, but most system engineer job postings will require a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.
Similar to the position of a software engineer, it is expected that a system engineer knows programming software and the ability to use multiple programming languages. It's also important that system engineers have the skills to communicate effectively with IT programmers when challenges come up while on the job.
System engineers can sometimes work from home, depending on their current work assignments and company policy.
