Howie the Harp through Community Access provides excellent training and support from professionals in the field of Peer Support, Social Work, Psychology and Psychiatry. Stipend is available during 6 month internship where you receive hands on training in the field. The training is intense and requires your full commitment to the program 5 days per week. You will take many test to assess your knowledge about the system. You will receive specialized training in Wellness Recovery which earns you an additional certification. There is also resume and job interview skill training. At the completion of training you are invited to participate in an internship fair where many specialist are hired after completing the 6 month internships. Overall this is an excellent way of getting in the door of the field of Human Services. You must, however, have experience within the mental health or justice system personally or through a family member. The most enjoyable part of the training is the staff and friendships that I enjoyed while attending the program. Also, once you are a member of Howie the Harp you become a member for life!

The staff were all peers. They educated and empowered all students. The guest speakers were knowledgeable and thorough. The internship was very helpful also; hands on training.
