A typical day of training for me would be to come into the lab fully dressed ready to identify myself as the phlebotomist and identify the patient first and last name correctly spelled and date of birth. By continuing I would set up my area to get ready to collect the blood specimen. I will palpate the skin just to find the vein. I will tie my tourniquet release the tourniquet clean the site retie the tourniquet before entering the vein I will tell the patient they will feel a poke and I will always thank the patient for allowing me to draw their blood
