A typical day of training involved reviewing medical records and determining the correct CPT and ICD-10 codes. The hardest part is sorting through all the information in the medical record and determining the information needed to code the patient’s chart. It is also a challenge sorting through coding guidelines and the hundreds of CPT and diagnosis codes. Therefore, it is very important to have a good background in Anatomy and medical terminology. I have learned that medical coding is a challenging field. Mistakes will be made but staying the course and practicing and continuing to increase your knowledge base is the key.
