Idaho Food Handler Requirements

In Idaho food service establishments, at least one manager or supervisor must be a Certified Food Protection Manager who has undergone training and testing through an accredited program. The CFPM is responsible for training a “person in charge” who will oversee safe food-handling practices at all times during operation.1

The CFPM also is responsible for ensuring that all food handlers have received proper training in safe food preparation and handling. The state does offer a free 45-minute test for food handlers, which results in a five-year food handler certification. The state does not require certification for all food handlers but strongly recommends it. The test and optional certification is available through the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
