Illinois Food Handler Requirements

All food handlers in Illinois are required to undergo ANSI-approved food handler training and certification. The certification can be obtained through an in-person training course or online, and training does not require employer supervision.1

Additionally, Illinois requires that at least one supervising employee at every food service establishment is a Certified Food Protection Manager who earned certification through a state-approved training course. The CFPM is not required to undergo the additional food handler training and certification.
