Ohio Food Handler Requirements

The State of Ohio has two levels of training and certification for food service employees: Person in Charge (Level 1) and Manager Certification (Level 2). Food service establishments are required to have a Person in Charge present for every shift. Food service establishments with a risk level of 3 or 4 also are required to have a management-level employee who has earned Ohio Manager Certification. To receive the proper certification, food service employees must take the appropriate course through the Ohio Department of Health and submit an application to the department following that training.1
