To earn a cosmetology license in Oregon, residents must complete a program through a state-licensed career school and pass written and practical examinations.1 School requirements include:
For all licenses, students must complete 20 hours of study on Oregon rules and regulations and 20 hours of career development training.
Licenses must be renewed every 2 years. When a license has been expired for more than 3 years, applicant must retake written and practical examinations to have the license reinstated. There is a $35 written exam fee, a $35 fee for the rules and regulations exam, a $20 initial application fee and a $45 renewal fee or a $40 online renewal fee. Licenses are issued by the Oregon Health Licensing Office Board of Cosmetology.1
