Service Specialist (Current Employee) – Oklahoma City, OK – September 20, 2018
Service Specialist Job is fairly easy. Take care of customers, keep store looking great. Folding pants, shirts, keeping store stocked, cleaning dusting, etc. As long as you are willing to learn and stay busy, you'll do great.
60% discount easy work most of the time its slow paced
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) – Manteca, CA – August 31, 2018
The products are great and it sells itself most of the time, but other products was trash. The company is small and will work you like a dog and the leads/ mangers don’t really care. So much favoritisms going on there, a lot of gossip also.
Some great people, nice discount
Pay should be more, work environment is poor, a lot of favoritism
Material Handler (Former Employee) – Manteca, CA – June 15, 2018
Relaxed environment and good people, supervisor structure severely lacking. Leads and supervisors act like they don't care to go out of their way to fix anything, probably because they are paid just a couple peanuts more than some temps. Little to no training for anything they expect you to know. Lack of safety awareness will bite this company in the rear one day.
Free food every so often, OT if you want that, Sundays off
Production Supervisor (Former Employee) – Modesto, CA – January 24, 2018
work almost every other Saturday - overtime always available - some people do their jobs well, other slack off and get away with it. I loved being a supervisor and working to pump up my teams attitudes to come to work every day
Custom Shop (Former Employee) – Modesto, CA – September 4, 2017
Good luck here! Unless you are clicky and fake you will not make it at 5.11. Make sure you have a weak personality and keep your voice on the sweet quiet side. Management takes third person information and forms an opinion of you rather than pulling you aside and learning about you on their own. This is an extremely toxic business built on fraud and running their company into the ground. Do your research.
People are childish and extremely immature....especially management
Shift Supervisor (Former Employee) – Sacramento, CA – July 30, 2017
I was a shift supervisor for a store location. The HR department for 5.11 is terrible. I endured harassment and mistreatment from a manager for personal vendetta. They never offered true solution and I never felt protected. 5.11 offers great benefits. But unless you shuffle along and get along there is no room for advancement. I didn't expect for a company that hired me with promises of we are all family environment to treat anyone who brought up HR concerns would get black listed.
Poor HR policies. No protection or support. Unless you are management.
The company itself is great, fun. Management is awful
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) – Modesto, CA – July 18, 2017
5.11 is a good company to work for, providing you are not in the customer service department. Management micromanages and quick to point out errors but not there to encourage. Once you get on their bad side, you're "dead" to them. VP and the higher ups, praise customer service team for exemplery dedication to their customers, then management destroys all comradary. There is no room for advancement unless you're their favorite.
Leader (Current Employee) – Irvine – June 19, 2017
They're going to tell you that 5.11 is a great place to work, and that they're growing. That's a not true.
They've shrunk from a $300 million company five years ago to a $293 million company last year. Just google their earnings. That doesn't lie.
They're trying desperately to save this dying beast. That's where the stress and the issues come in. Their culture is a joke. You can feel the stress in the air.
The management is constantly pressing to try and save the company. They're always changing everything to try and save their own hides.
It's a boys club. As a woman, it was torturous. I paid less and treated poorly. It's a testosterone filled vat of misogyny. You're expected to fawn over the men in leadership and like their geniuses. When the truth is they're running this place into the ground.
P.S. They'll tell you it's amazing that their ethos accounts for half of your employee. It's a trap. It gives them carte blanche to base and deny you opportunity regardless of your performance.
Shift Supervisor (Current Employee) – Riverside, CA – June 17, 2017
I usually have great things to say about companies I work for, but this one not so much. There is no room for growth and the company has poor communication skills with their employees. Also, there is no room for growth within the company because they tend to hire outside the company as oppose to within. They also tend to have their mind made up of who they want to hire. This is a male dominated company and does well with female employees however they tend to favor the men that work for the company over the woman this is reflected in promotions and pay.
Amazing employee discounts, Great industry discounts and perks
No room for growth, Pay isn't great, Raises are far and few between
Shift Supervisor (Current Employee) – San Diego, CA – April 15, 2017
Every day is a new challenge. We get to help people solve problems they didn't think they could. We get to help law enforcement every day with the products they need to keep them selves safe or productive.
Fast growing company. Interesting challenges everyday
Young company not a lot of room to grow at the moment
