Great people, many different work sites, lived close to work sites, work relocation every other week

A typical work day would consist of waking up very early to arrive at the work site by sunrise. When there we would have a daily safety and current events meeting, followed up by a group calisthenics to limber workers up for a full day of work. From there we would split into groups and head to the specific turbines to be worked on. Upon arrival to the wind turbine to be worked on, half of the group would inspect equipment and sign off on the adherence to safety regulations daily. The other half would shut down the turbine and record specific data to be logged online after work was completed. Maintenance would then occur. Afterwards the equipment would be moved and prepped for the next days work. The groups would return to the head quarters of the work site and sign out confirming that the contracted work had been completed. Paper work would then be completed and logged online. After working for this company for a Summer I learned it is important to be as flexible as possible, and that when there is work to be done it should get done. My management was very helpful. As a smaller company, often the owners would work with us on site, lightening our group's work distribution. My co-workers were a very lively bunch.Because I had to live with them on site at various locations we became friendly quickly. The hardest part of the job was always being away from home. Because work sites would vary per contract rarely would we have down time. Not to say we didn't have any free time outside of work because some work places had safety protocols where due to heat indexes we could -

Pros

Close knit company, good management and coworkers, good way to see the nation

Job was very productive and fun until we got weathered out. I learned a lot about working with caution and about safety..

A typical day at A&A for me was getting up around 5:30 or 6 A.M. eat breakfast grab lunch, get in the company truck with my crew and head to O&M or BP. After getting there, we would sign in, fill out and go over the safety papers/guidelines and after we finished, we would all go out and stretch to be physically prepared to climb the turbines. When we would get done stretching, we headed out to the job sight, got things we needed out, done harness inspections. Then a buddy and I would climb up tower to the nacell to set the cables used for hoisting the basket. After they were set we would have to wait 30 min or so until the other 2 crew members had the basket set. Making sure it was safe, 2 crew members would go up the side of the tower in the basket and start work until the job was finished or until we had to rig down. Finally after a long days work, we would get dinner and go home or back to the hotel.

Pros

Good pay, good experiences.

Cons

Bad weather stopping work.

the work was fun when we had work

The employees were great, but the management was very unorganized. They paid by the job, and the hour. The money was great when we had work, but we went sometimes months without working. Not the idea job for a family man with bills.

Pros

great job for a younger person

Cons

doesnt pay good enough for the work and the traveling
