Job would be great if they would stop putting people with leads who doesn't like them.
Concrete Finisher (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - March 13, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWhat is the best part of working at the company? A&K is ok, depending on you who end up working with. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Leads who favor others and sticking good workers to bad jobs. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Depends on who you end up working with. The job is great if you're on a good crew.

Backstabbing, liars, unwilling to work with you
Lead Mechanic (Current Employee) - Fallon, NV - May 3, 2023
The management is bad and hard to work with. They tell you what you want to hear to get you on board then do nothing they said. No education, no room for moving up, off work a month or more a year.

Areas for improvement

- Overall satisfaction
- Ability to learn new things
Bad work environment, bad infrastructure
Heavy Equipment Operator (Current Employee) - Reno, NV - September 18, 2021
No advance opportunity, family run business and if you aren’t family then you don’t matter and are disposable. They only promote those in their family and will not give you an opportunity to succeed

Not worth it
Laborer/Operator (Former Employee) - Reno, NV - May 16, 2021
Where do i start. First off, I will debunk any common misconceptions about A&K..first off, the pay is not good at all, if you are a laborer, you can find better pay on USA Pkwy and your commute will be less, regardless if you live in reno or fallon. If you are an operator, don't even apply here. Second, you won't work in fallon, everyone thinks since it's a fallon based company you work there, wrong, they will send you all over the place on a weekly basis mainly in reno or Carson. The commute alone and pay is enough reason to stay away. Favoritism, yeah if you are a favorite like some of the guys that work there, you get the jobs you want etc. You will witness at some point your superintendent drink alcohol on the job, it happened multiple times within my time with the company. The best part was watching my superintendent operate equipment on a state job completely intoxicated. They do not promote from with in, they hire constantly because know one stays so if you are a good operator but they hired you as a laborer, buckle up, you are not operating, your gonna watch them hire person after person to fill a spot you could've done. I think that sums it up pretty good.
Pros
Cheap work shirts
Cons
Working there

Strange company culture
Office (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - June 12, 2020
You have to wonder why there is so much turnover in office staff in recent years. It's not a welcoming company and key managers could work on their people skills to support new employees & to listen to long time employee suggestions. Being a family owned company means there are some underqualified employees kept around because they're family.
Pros
Decent pay
Cons
Healthcare coverage, paid time off accrual

Driver
Truck Driver (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - March 12, 2020
If you only want to work a couple full weeks a year work here. Do not trust anyone as they are all back stabbers. And plan on a 60+ mile commute to your job site every day with NO per diem.

i enjoyed what i did for A&K Earthmovers
Foreman (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - September 14, 2019
the job was very good to me, the administration, not so much as it felt like i was being set up to fall, which i never let happen, the camaraderie i developed with my fellow concrete finishers was priceless and still remains the biggest reason i regret the career ending, on the job injury i sustained on September 25 2017 but it was that which aloud me to attend audio engineering school, my one true love, and train extensively in the audio creative arts field, and for that, I say thank you A&K for the memories, experience, and the lifelong friendships i was able to create along the way thru my employ with them

Good company
Laborer/Equipment Operator (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - August 25, 2019
Good company to work for, pays good and most the employees are enjoyable to be around. Some holidays you'll have off, insurance is okay, 401k is decent.

I moved dirt.
Truck Driver Class A (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - December 1, 2017
I was a driver hauling materials to and from various job sites. I also did the heavy haul to move equipment from one job site to another. Mostly old worn out equipment that barely stayed functional. Not a fun place to work.
Pros
It was a job
Cons
Not fun. Junk equipment.

Productive and Long days
CONSTRUCTION LABORER/OPERATER (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - February 6, 2016
I paved roads for at least 10 hours a day. I learned the proper way to run a street broom and grade roads. My co-workers were funny and kept the environment in a good mood. The hardest part of the job was always having to travel to far away job sites. The best part of the job was always being promised 8 or more hours a day with a flexible schedule.
Pros
Overtime was always given after working more than 8 hours
Cons
I worked during the summer and the heat plus the asphalt made it a 100 times hotter work environment

Overall comfortable place of employment
Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - October 22, 2015
At the beginning of the day, we would have a safety meeting and share any safety issues or potential hazards which we may have experienced the previous day and fill out a risk assessment form before beginning our daily work list for the current job on which we were assigned. Then I would begin the repairs/maintenance/diagnostics/troubleshooting etc.
Management was extremely efficient and willing to solve any safety or work related issues.
My co-workers and myself worked strongly as a team sharing any helpful information and/or potential hazards.
The hardest part of the job was welding and torch cutting in extremely hot desert conditions.
The most enjoyable part of the job was learning about all of the newer types with technical/mechanical systems.
Pros
Excellent financial compensation
Cons
Unpredictable daily/hourly schedule

Good Contruction outfit.
Heavy Equipment Operator (Former Employee) - Fallon, NV - June 3, 2015
I did not work here for very long, but they always seemed to have lots of jobs going on and 90 percent of them were prevailing wage jobs paying good money. They are a decent size company out of Fallon Nevada, and once you get hired on they send you to work right away. I was working with them in 2010 when the market was at its worst and they still kept their workers busy.

Overall this company is a good company to work for.
Contractor Administrator (Current Employee) - Fallon, NV - August 19, 2014
This company has gone through some changes since the passing of its founding leader, but has managed to consolidate and keep the business going, but not without hardships being endured by all who are employed by them. What once was a very close knit company has become some what disorganized. With a better, more open line of communication, this company would benefit greatly.

Good Job....
Oiler, Mechanic (Current Employee) - Fallon Nv - May 6, 2013
Work from noon until jobs completed. I have learned so much more about preventative maintenance. My management has a "rules" very stern, but it makes for better job quality. Co workers are great, I get along with all of them. Hardest part of job is being mainly the only one available for my position. If I want time off, its a pain, minus the non paid vacations... There is no one to cover my shift. we do have others that can drive, but they are busy wrenching on whats needed to be done already. Also this company has a hard time retaining fuelers. I have trained 8 since Oct 2012. I love what I do, but not who I di it for. They have been good tome, but I earned that respect. I have no benes, vacation time, and fight for my family time. I would love to have a balanced job. They have health benes, but would have to sacrifice my rent to pay. EXPENSIVE!
Pros
some perks
Cons
Health benes expensive, no vaca time, and having lil to no help.
