2.0Work/Life Balance
2.0Job Security/Advancement
No mentoring, no consistant work/hours and extremely labor intensive.
Written by Fishery Observer (Former Employee) from Marion, MA on February 10, 2018
-The observer works alone on many different types of fishing vessels under mostly poor conditions for days and weeks at a time. The actual work is extremely labor intensive and can be dangerous. The observer is also situated between their employer and the controlling government agency which creates tension and stress; 75% of observers did not last one - more ... year.
-The only positive part of the job is dealing with the marine life, actual biological sampling and the data collection.
-Hourly compensation was extremely low for the such a intensive job even if it is an entry level position. - less
ProsBenefit package is good
ConsLabor intensive/danerous work, Inconsistant scheduling of work
