No mentoring, no consistant work/hours and extremely labor intensive.
-The observer works alone on many different types of fishing vessels under mostly poor conditions for days and weeks at a time. The actual work is extremely labor intensive and can be dangerous. The observer is also situated between their employer and the controlling government agency which creates tension and stress; 75% of observers did not last one - more ... year.
-The only positive part of the job is dealing with the marine life, actual biological sampling and the data collection.
-Hourly compensation was extremely low for the such a intensive job even if it is an entry level position. - less
