Begin a dialogue with distributors about product containers, limiting size and weight. The Laws of Physics prevent safe transport of many products, no matter how much one desires to do an efficient job safely. This must be a critical issue affecting similar organizations across this nation! Reorganize stores and have a serious discussion about safety and cleanliness.
Hauling heavy boxes, stocking shelves, ringing up customers and selling, selling, selling leaves little energy or enthusiasm to perform necessary cleaning and organization. I have worked in stores where shelves had not been cleaned in years, where the floors were filthy,, and I would not use the bathrooms or drink from the faucets. I and others found dead rats in one store's grossly dis-organized stock room, which doubled as employee break room.
I spent many off-the-clock hours cleaning to correct this in each store I worked at, especially with impending inspections -which determine, in part, a store's commission/bonus structure.Corporate maintains they do not believe in custodial/porter services, but something's gotta give, because exhausted employees, and filthy, unsafe conditions affect moral, employee health and welfare AND the all important the bottom line in.
