The last department I worked it was not a very pleasant environment. Favoritism by managers towards women and people from their same nationality was clear.

That's all going to depend on who your supervisor is. There are several that micro manage to the point you want to scream. It was a good company to work for but they keep no secrets about their ongoing surpluses.
