Life Skills Worker II (Former Employee) –  Marienville, PAAugust 14, 2019
Environment is stressful which is expected however it is good to see when the counseling pays off for the youth. However low staffing, and increased hours drain the employee

EDUCATION / PREVENTION COUNSELOR (Current Employee) –  Marienville, PAMay 15, 2019
There is not enough pay at Abraxas for the demands of most of the jobs. If the facility paid more, people would stay, alleviating the stress of mandated shifts which is what drives most people out of the facility.
Pros
free breakfast, luch and dinner
Cons
mandated shifts randomly, you cannot plan on going home

Life Skills Worker II (Former Employee) –  Marienville, PAJune 18, 2018
very stressful at times. you make good work relationships which is what you look forward to. The work at times is rewarding and you have to love your job. you can get mandated over night on a moments notice which is very unnerving. If you're low on the totem pole for mandated hours, you're pretty much guaranteed for overnight. Also if you are a Life Skills worker you get the short end of the stick as well. Theres not much room for advancement if you don't have a degree as well.
Pros
good pay. paid vacation
Cons
hours. mandation. no room for advancement

Administrativ Assistant II/Confidential Secretary (Former Employee) –  Marienville, PAApril 9, 2018
Politics is the word for Abraxas. Staff are not treated fairly or uniformly. It depends on who you are what you can get away with. The atmosphere is that of being in high school. Administration is lazy and political. There are, however, many nice people working there.
Pros
Friendly staff
Cons
Administration is unfair and political

Poor treatment of employees and clients
Drug and Alcohol Counselor (Former Employee) –  Marienville, PAFebruary 21, 2018
The initial training program is thorough, but the themes are not carried through to the actual program. Consistency is the most often broken of the 7 principles, causing confusion and frustration among staff and clients. Abraxas has a poor employee retention rate and you will often find yourself mandated, meaning you will usually work a 16 hour day unexpectedly. Time management is poor and you are given very little time to complete all of your expected tasks without needing to come in during your days off, early, or staying several hours after shift to ensure your paperwork is turned in on time to avoid penalties. There is little time for breaks throughout the day and often you will find you will not get a break during a 16 hours shift
Pros
Watching the clients succeed

Dangerous place to work
Night Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Marienville, PADecember 10, 2017
This company is a private for profit company. The job at times can be very enjoyable, however when things go wrong they can go terribly wrong. They have staffing issues, so plan on lots of forced overtime. Don't be surprised if you spend 8 hours sitting in the middle of the woods in the middle of winter. Or worse yet, have your car stolen.

Short staffed = Many Mandated Hours
Life Skills Worker (Current Employee) –  Marienville, PAMay 19, 2016
Normal job requirements are not difficult. But as a Life Skills Worker, you get mandated for additional 8 hour shifts (including overnights) due to the facility always being short staffed.

Overtime pay is nice, but the many hours that add up are tiring. As well as the constant switching between working 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
Pros
Plenty of overtime available, benefits
Cons
Mandated overtime

nothing to say other than great entry level position. Not great at holding onto seasoned people. Management is larger than it needs to be with not enough doing the work that is needed.

fullfilling, rewarding, and a lot of dedication
Treatment Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Marienville, PAOctober 26, 2013
Abraxas I is an ever changing fast paced environment with no day ever being the same. A program for troubled adolescents, that is both stressful and rewarding. Abraxas I has taught me the importance of reinforcing structure and balance into a youth's life, as well as many other counseling modalities and perspectives. Management is extremely supportive of the growth of its employees and the success of the facility. No decisions are made with out the top concerns of client safety and program integrity being at the forefront. Co-workers are an eclectic assortment of people. Some are very supportive, helpful, and organized, while others are not. A well working team is vital to the success of the unit and to provide the maximum amount of treatment that can be obtained. The biggest challenge as an employee at Abraxas I is maintaining a healthy work/life balance as there are many long hours to put forth and shifts to cover. The most rewarding thing about this position is witnessing and taking part in the positive changes that the clients make.
Pros
fast paced, rewarding
Cons
long hours, odd shifts

Got a gift at Christmas
Life Skill Worker ll (Former Employee) –  Marienville, PAJuly 18, 2013
I had to do groups and walk the halls I did take about 5 or 6 off grounds to NA meetings then to eat. I all so took them roller skating once a week and we would have fun. Co workers they where not the best to work with did not follow the rules and played around too much. I would have to say the enjoyable part of the job was the clients
