HR (Former Employee) –  State College, PASeptember 21, 2017
The people, overall culture, and everything about working at accuweather is extremely enjoyable. While my position in particular is at times high-stress, the job is challenging and rewarding.

Inefficient Operation
Sales Representative (Current Employee) –  State College, PAJune 9, 2017
Travel for travel's sake. Lack of strategic thinking, lack of consultative selling. Little vision. Inefficient operation. Poor marketing overall. Terrible environment.
Pros
autonomy for planning
Cons
Nickel and dime attitude towards expenses; basically assumes everyone is trying to cheat on expenses

Bad hours, bad pay, bad people
Meteorologist (Former Employee) –  State College, PANovember 28, 2016
Management is not in touch with its employees. Like working 10PM to 6 AM one day and 11AM to 7PM the next? This place is for you! Like getting paid (with a very difficult degree to get) worse than working at McDonald's? This place is for you!
Pros
They feed you on the 6 holidays per year you have to work
Cons
Hours, pay, people

Forward thinking, but with some road blocks
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding Specialist (Former Employee) –  StateNovember 22, 2016
Overall a good company to work for.
At times, the trickle down from Founder and President negatively impacts overall operations, and makes it difficult to operate as the entrepreneurial forward thinking company it strives to be. However, there is great talent in place and the company has much potential to thrive in the global digital media industry.

Depends on who you know
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  State College, PAMay 9, 2016
If you know the right people or fit into the right groups, you certainly reap the benefits and working here could be a lot of fun. However, the company policy does not apply to all employees. Some get to abuse their vacation/sick time; some get to spend more time socializing with co-workers than producing work; some get three - five breaks per day, others aren't allowed any. HR is no help. They tend to be biased when it comes to management/employee conflict and trust me when I say that no conversation is confidential, no matter what they tell you. They will make you believe they are trying to help you, but don't be surprised when you get a last minute meeting scheduled and walk out if it no longer employed. Good luck! Working here felt like high school all over again.

Good for short term
NOC Technician (Former Employee) –  State College, PAOctober 17, 2015
The job itself wasn't bad, all you did was maintain the server room for alarms and then alert those who maintain each area. Also did a lot of back up tapes so that experience was good.
Other than that the manager there had no idea how to run anyone, you would go into his office, you would sit for a good 20 minutes while he decided what to talk to you about then you could go on with your day.
I did a lot of rotating shifts which wasn't good for my body but it was required for this job. The pay itself was bad since I had to travel about 45 minutes to get there and this was when gas was not cheap so it wasn't an ideal situation.
I was able to leave this company after about 8 months and find a better job so it was ok for short term, it's not really a long term job.
Pros
learning how to maintain alarms and backup tapes
Cons
rotating shifts, no set shift, lots of being alone with no co-workers

Co-workers were generally fun people. There's a lot of room to learn a lot while there. It's interesting to see how a weather company functions.

Overall it was a nice starting job.
Full time employee (Current Employee) –  State College, PANovember 19, 2014
Overall I worked night shifts and management was not in touch with their employees. They would schedule meetings during the days when overnight people were sleeping. They would schedule people with sporadic swing shifts by 6 hours per day. The pay was below average for a salary and the amount of work we did. The co-workers were very nice to work with but overall it was management that was the main problem.

Job with many facets and added daily duties
Expert Senior Meteorologist (Current Employee) –  State College, PADecember 12, 2013
A very versatile job which varies from day to day. Regular daily duties include long range forecasting for energy clients, radio broadcasting of weather information, live and taped and detailed briefing and forecasting for major market TV clients. Frequent added duties include reporter interviews, extra radio broadcasts in storm situations
Pros
decent healthcare deal, ability to work from home with company provided computer
Cons
Little if any time for meal breaks, expectation of meeting attendance outside of shifts, too many extra added duties in storm situations, lack of advancement opportunities, insufficient salary increases to keep up with cost of living, having to work from home to complete daily tasks, unreasonable expectations to receive relatively small annual bonus

Company has a bad attitude problem and the employees follow suit.
Video Technician (Former Employee) –  State College, PAApril 11, 2013
Hated working here, a few people are treated like gods and no one really know why. Middle management is horrible, pay is horrible, the people are horrible. They are located next to a major university so anytime you have a problem or complain they just respond with how every semster 10,000 graduate down the road and they will get one of them to replace you for cheaper. Everyone I know that ever worked here that is a decent worker left within 2 years and are now on to bigger and better things. They attitude and treatment by management has turned this company into a training program and it cant keep its good employees.
Pros
gym in building
Cons
no cafeteria, no paid vacations, will work overnight when hired
