Direct care (Current Employee) –  Fort Worth, TXJanuary 17, 2019
ACH has a major culture problem. Upper management in the departments and agency leadership engage in bullying and intimidation. There is rampant gossip between directors and supervisors and whoever their favorite employee is. HR pretends to care but really they are protecting their own. Several people have filed complaints against the director and they do nothing to stop the behavior, only excuse her behavior and watch it continue without consequence.

Management is fully aware of every time the dorms have had bug problems. Each time they deny theres any bugs, even afyer seeing flea bites all over clients' body (feet, legs, behind, arms, back, hands, and breasts). The clients try to stand uo for themselves but arent taken seriously because they are young adult orphans.

You have to be able to work with individuals with different sets of values. A typical day is planning activities and appointments for the clients. provide advice and guidance and teaching accountability for ones actions. T most difficult part about this job is the way that the clients talk and behave with you.

ACH/OCOK - The company is a great place to work. Its mission is great and they do good things in the community. However, their upper management is the WORST! These people are untouchable, insenitive and soul-less people. They do not care about their employees well-being, only the contracts and numbers on those contracts. The management staff sit in their offices, and make judgement calls that have negative effects on their employees, they do not provide a welcoming working environment. This is a very toxic place to work. If you are looking for a great place to work, this company is not your best find.. Stay away from ACH/OCOK

I love the ACH/OCOK culture. There’s room for advancement and management in most departments work with you in allowing you to learn a new position and advance in your career. The CEO is amazing and the campus is beautiful. I’m proud of the mission and all we do for the families we serve. This is an awesome community and they deserve it! Way to go ACH!
Pros
Atmosphere, coworkers, fun events, great mission

Child Care/Transportation Specialist (Former Employee) –  Fort Worth, TXJune 5, 2018
Long work days, tons of overtime. To provide safety, basic child care, transportation, a supportive experience, and provide empathic adult guidance to clients. The job requires sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and ability to function without close supervision. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and be able to operate a multi-passenger vehicle. Must have a driving record, which is within the guidelines of the insurance underwriter.

Child Care/Transportation Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Fort Worth, TXApril 16, 2018
I think the biggest struggle ACH has is the work/life balance. It is a constant job working 50+ hours a week. That is pretty typical though when you work in the social work field.
Pros
Benefits/PTO/401K, Fun work enviroment, great training
Cons

Behavior Care Residential Treatment - Overall good work culture
Youth Care Specialist (PRN) (Current Employee) –  Fort Worth, TXJanuary 16, 2016
Good co-workers and meaningful work. Pay is not great, but may be typical for a non-profit. When I have an issue, my supervisors work hard at finding a solution. The hardest part of the job is dealing with the clients we help, children with behavioral problems. The most enjoyable part is seeing clients improve and heal from past traumas because of the work we all do.
Pros
Food is provided for while at work. Make a difference in the lives of troubled children.
Cons
Some clients can be difficult to deal with and may lash out physically.

The kids are the best part of the job
Youth Care Specialist (Current Employee) –  Fort Worth, TXJanuary 6, 2016
As a youth care specialist, one interacts with the kids in care on a daily basis. You are their parent. You take care of their meals, laundry, daily schedule, homework, etc. This also includes discipline- never hitting! You'll get fired if you do that. This job is not for a militant because you need to be tender with these kids as well as learn a new skill set to handle children who have been traumatized. We use TBRI which is Trust Based Relational Intervention (from the institute of Child Development at TCU)

Unless you have another source of income or have a lot saved up, I do not recommend this job for the money. It is slightly above minimum wage and everyone, no matter your education or experience, is payed the same rate.

The best part of the job is the kids. There are definite lows but when they get to play and just be kids and enjoy life, it is heartwarming to watch them be silly when they have come from tragic or traumatizing pasts.

The co-workers are all relaxed and joke around a lot. A very good group. ACH does need to work on work life balance though because they don't have many ways for the workers to relax or have breaks.

Overall, your heart needs to be in this job otherwise you will burn out fast.
Pros
kids, outdoor play, benefits, fun staff, Tbri, relationships with children
Cons
little to no breaks, low pay, no well-being programs for staff

Family Home Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Fort WorthJanuary 6, 2015
Overall, ACH is a good place to work. Like any Non-Profit agency, you have your ups and downs. We work with the community as well as with foster care youth. Management is generally supportive of the staff. The most enjoyable part is all of the activities that staff get to participate in because of the awewome donations. I have learned a great deal about Trauma while working for ACH.
Pros
Good working atmosphere
Cons
Compensation is not quite up to par considering the work load.
