Small working community
Licensed Practical Nurse (Current Employee) –  Rock Hill, SCApril 22, 2019
Acts Retirement is a small community that is not a bad place to work. However, as in most cases only a selected few benefit from company policies. Family and money governs this particular facility and company treads a thin line of risks regarding safety of staff and residents. Facility has decline in care and management since I have been an employee here.
Pros
Close to home
Cons
No room for advancement or growth

Cook (Former Employee) –  Huntsville, ALMarch 26, 2019
Is a good place to learn and to improve your skills as a cook.
Bad manager, terrible chef they don’t care about. Every four months people quit is too much. Most of the time you have to do 2 jobs at the same time. They don’t appreciate for what you do. They always talking behind your back. I do not recommend working in the culinary department.
No one is happy in this department!!!!

This is a nice work environment for healthcare workers.
Residents are mostly pleasant and appreciative.
It is a clean and safe gated community.
Most of the staff has been there for many years,

This company is good for High school kids who want gas money.
Sanitation (Current Employee) –  Spring House, PAMarch 1, 2019
High school employees in dish room tend to disappear for long periods of time and hold up other employees from getting their jobs done, management are never really present in the dish room area to keep an eye on the kitchen/ dish room area, I'm usually staying back late to clean clean up with little or no help, company does not look at individuals and pay them based on skill and work ethic but pays everyone equal pay with only a set pay raise (can wait up to a year for a raise) despite the age, work ethic or skill of employees. As a full time employee I have PTO, health benefits and a 40 hours per week however I am only being scheduled 30 hours a week. Asked for more hours but only got 4 extra hours giving a full timer a total of 64 hours of pay per pay period with the same pay rate as high school kids who play tag in the kitchen with chemicals.

Mechanic Skilled/ Semi-Skilled--Beware
Mechanic Specialist (Former Employee) –  Matthews, NCFebruary 20, 2019
You show up daily intending to complete your work with some level of priority or meet appointments you have previously made. It all suddenly changes when you find out the management has scheduled someone else at the same time. No communication between foreman, maintenance director or other members of management, This usually results in a reprimand or some denigrating statement. The only people that have your back is your immediate coworkers. You will also get called out on this. So don't buy the part in the mission statement about being treated with dignity and individuality.
Pros
Knowledgable co-workers. Most residents respectful and appreiative
Cons
Most members of management self obsorbed, rude and spiteful.

stressful work environment with lack of leadership
Server (Former Employee) –  Matthews, NCJanuary 23, 2019
Culinary management leadership was almost non-existent, with no oversight or clear direction. The work environment was unprofessional which stemmed from the very top. Hourly employees worked hard but exempt ones were often missing in action.
Pros
Resident were great, pleasure to serve them

Directors needed to be held accountable

A typical day at work you come in and go to line up, after you check your tables to make sure everything is good, then go stay up against a wall and make sure your back is not facing the residents.

Tryon Estates was a great place to work. My coworkers were like family to me and it was hard to leave, but there wasn't much of a chance for job growth in the field that I was in.

this job helped my customer service and communication skills flourish
Culinary Service Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Boca Raton, FLOctober 29, 2018
a typical day at work includes mild paper work, organizing reservations, planning pre assignments and assigning tasks to many different people. followed by interaction with customers and supervising and overseeing a busy dining room. I've learned how to be more efficient in Microsoft word and excel.
the work culture is always respectful, always lively and upbeat with people of many different backgrounds getting along swell.
this job also taught me how to work well under extreme pressure.
the most enjoyable part of this job is the customer interaction. It makes me happy to make the customers happy, it truly makes my day.

toxic work environment
Cook (Current Employee) –  Matthews, NCOctober 25, 2018
Culinary department executive leaders not driving the team in positive direction. Compared to other jobs it is very unorganized. Racism, unequal treatment, and disrespectful behavior runs rampant and unchecked which leads so a somber work atmosphere. Training is almost nonexistant. Pay rates amongst my job vary with no rhyme or reason, older employees make less than new ones that start with no job experience? It's unfair. Corporate leaders do not see the reality when they visit and everyone's afraid to speak up.
Pros
Health insurance is great as well as the other benefits
Cons
Corporate leaders don't hold department leaders accountable

Typical Not-for-Profit
Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  Media, PAOctober 18, 2018
Unfortunately they do not live their mission statement, the management ranks try to desperately protect their job and will pressure their staffs beyond reasonable expectations for performance. Managers talk differently to their superiors than they do to their subordinates, would recommend a 360 evaluation process to enlighten top management.
Pros
Great working with senior citizens, very rewarding.

Good company depending on your position.
FP2 (Former Employee) –  Southampton, PASeptember 28, 2018
Stay clear of the kitchen department. Backstabbing, overworked, never enough staff, favoritism, drama. Way to many "managers" and not enough muscle. You hear nothing but flak for 8 hours from so called prissy managers who walk around the kitchen in heals, skirts, low cut, illfitting tops, instead of your chef and kinda makes you wonder as to who runs the asylum, Zero cordination amongst kitchen staff. 2 cooks in the morning to cook 2 meals for about 400 people each meal to be ready to take to sattilite kitchens throughout the facility, all while also having to work an alacarte grill station from 6-9. (2seperate parts of the facility).
With the correct management and staffing in place this could be a rock star situation but not as it is run now.
Pros
Not many
Cons
Most everything
