Wonderful Company Culture
Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  Orlando, FLMay 7, 2019
Working for the Alakaina Foundation Family of Companies has been a wonderful experience. It is truly like a home away from home. I love the company culture and the way Alakaina gives back to the community with the Digital Bus Program. This program offers mobile science and technology classrooms to supplement STEM curriculum to the students of Maui and Moloka`i. Alakaina is also a non-profit 501 (c) 3 ensuring that the young men and women of Hawaii have the skills and competencies they need to become effective leaders.

Avoid At All Costs
Veterinary Technician (Former Employee) –  Frederick, MDMarch 8, 2019
This company was an utter disappointment as a whole. Management was distant and had no clue on what was going on with their employees. On site management was unhelpful and rarely gave assistance or guidance when needed. Some military members treated contractors like trash and verbally assaulted contractors in front of management. HR was unhelpful and rarely gave detailed explanations to employees about basic topics. There was no overtime or compensation for working weekends except for "flex time", which was an unpaid day off. When reporting complaints or issues with other employees or military members, HR and upper mgmt did little to abate issues. The employees who were directed to undertake the most responsibility and tasked with heading up sections were not given lead employee pay or recognition. There were no basic safety implementations for employees like steel-toed shoes or required health surveillances. While we were told that employees were allotted one lab animal conference to go to, we were never allowed to go (or previously, had to use our own leave). There's little support for employees who wish to get certified in lab animal science. The pay is not on par with other contracting companies in the area, including contractors on the same campus. The organization of this contractor is terrible and the leadership is very weak. I would absolutely not recommend this company.

An organization focused on the big picture: furthering their charity's awareness (Alaka`ina 501(c)3) and customer satisfaction.
Pros
health benefits, culture, laid back atmosphere, flexibility to families
Cons
pay and advancement based on education not on experience or seniority, perks mainly for executives, not enough bonuses for performance
