Both rewarding and stressful

Indeed Featured review

Most employees are very hard-working, team-oriented and supportive. However the workload can be heavy, leading to staff burnout and inadequate support (given management is stretched thin as well). It’s a good place to work if you’re used to working independently and committed to the patient population.

Pros

Co-workers share same commitment to patients, excellent pay and benefits

Cons

Staff burnout

Great benefits.

Great company to work for. They care about their employees and families because they offer great benefits. My medical benefit is free. Company pays all the premium. They also offer retirement benefits. 403B matching after 3 years for full time CNAs.

Pros

Great benefits

Cons

Short breaks. CNAs are always short staffed.

Transition phase

The organization has a lot of potential, but for many reasons, struggles to realize it. Lots of turnover, lack of clear strategy, lack of advancement are some of the issues I encounter. The positives are that there are some really talented hard workers who go above and beyond to ensure things work out. I also got to learn a lot on the job, which is a big plus.

Pros

Health benefits

Cons

Lack of advancement opportunities

Good first job

Good place to start in nursing career, as you are exposed to various situations and conditions. It can be very disorganized at times, so if you’re a very organized person, this will bother you. Managers are helpful. Typical nurse culture.. some like you, others don’t

Pros

Good managers, decent pay

Cons

Unorganized, know it all coworkers

Great people. Great mission

For an organization with so much at stake; being a safety net healthcare organization with 2 community hospitals, a trauma center, SNF, medical clinics, psychiatric hospital and rehab center all while serving the underserved population with limited resources, AHS remains Vibrant and positive.

Pros

Diverse workforce and leadership

Cons

Limited resources

Great place to get experience, maybe not stay

Over the years I have been here it has lied up to the ideal of a teaching facility and a safety net hospital. With that being said over the years since it was removed from county control many things have fallen to the wayside, but if you are looking to work with a super diverse work group as well as clientele, this is the place to be. It can be a lot to see and manage and you will have your will tested, if you are built like that you should apply.

Incredible diversity and meaningful work with chronic task overload

AHS is a great place to work as a clinical leader if you have no family obligations or interest in taking vacation and want to devote yourself to your job and basically live there. Everyone who gets anything done must wear gazillion hats and spend inordinate hours troubleshooting, advocating, and reinventing wheels. But the bedside staff and patients are amazing and the work you accomplish in service of them is deeply meaningful.

Toxic work culture

Highland hospital is great opportunity to expand work experience with the population of patients that receive services here. Business politics unfortunately looms over a program that serves vulnerable patient population (survivors of intimate partner abuse), increasing staff burnout, lay offs and overall manipulation from management. A company that provides health services shouldn’t have a culture of harming their staff.

Pros

Benefits, cafeteria, staff garden

Cons

Management, parking

If I could give this hospital ownership a worse review I would

This place is a mess. Care management leadership is irresponsible and lacks the competence to do their job. The management is regularly under review by Stare authorities. Management team is supplemented by interim managers that are staffed through staffing agencies and are clueless. They arrive to the hospital with little to no practical or local knowledge and proceed to make dysfunctional changes and harmful enforce rules to just appear to be capable. Permanent line staff are incredibly unhappy with half capable and the other half incapable of performing most duties of discharge planning. Turnover of supplemental line staff hired through staffing agencies is incredibly high with many not lasting the extent of a 13 week contract which is a clear indication of the toxicity there!

Pros

25% of the property is comprised of recent construction which is nice

Cons

Total property is a mix of 75 year old buildings with new construction, patients have an incredibly hard time navigating sites

If you can work here....

You can literally work anywhere. You learn so much about your own resilience when so many barriers are put in your path. Immediate manager is threatened by anyone who has more experience—therefore creates a hostile environment. Hospitalists are great to work with. CM team is divided and not supportive.

Pros

Small community hospital, parking

Cons

Management, no room for growth

People are compassionate

The good thing about working here is the staff is compassionate however, change is hard here due to the fact that there are so many people who have been there for such a length of time that they tend to resist change. Also, management makes a lot of decisions without input or knowledge of operations and downstream impacts of those decisions.

Do not work at this company

The care management system leadership is the worst I've ever seen. They do not support their site managers or staff. They literally lie and will suck everything out of you without a thought to benefit whatever issue they have at the moment. It's nearly unbelievable how underhanded the system director is. Just a snake pit. Wow.

Excellent benefits! Management turnover is very high.

The great benefits are worth all of the other negative aspects. Dedicated employees. The most enjoyable part of the job are the dedicated employees.

No room for advancement

This is a place good for new graduates who need some experience and then move out and find something better. Some people seem to have been there for many years and got to a management position with seniority of because they knew somebody. Education does not guarantee anything on this organization.

Pros

Good pay

Cons

No room for advancement
