Great team and family feel at each supply center.
Inside Sales (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 6, 2018
Each supply center had it's own way of operating depending on certain products sold and client needs in that region. Was interesting getting to know different customers and the products they used in certain areas compared to other areas. Some contractors sold certain products that others did not and made their living with them.

Typical day at work was fullfilling contractor product orders, ordering windows and doors from the factory for contractors, taking phone calls from contractors, maintaining warehouse duties, loading and unloading trucks of building materials, acting as liaison between sales representatives and 100 accounts.
Pros
Always busy, lots of customers, lots of benefits, consistent workload, free lunches and meals, 401K matching, Monday - Friday schedule, no nights or weekends.
Cons
Lots of driving to deliver customer materials.

Poor Management
Inside Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  Fayetteville, NCJune 29, 2018
I worked for Alside as an Inside Sales/SSR for almost 4 years. Constant change over in employees, had a change in branch management who had zero background in building supply, horrunable people skills and could not manage the center do to his incompetence in the job knowledge necessary to direct subordinates. This is a direct reflection from upper management who stresses more work with the least amount of staff possible, which in turn makes it extremely difficult to service customer base. In essence, if you want a highly successful, no support. And a manager that doesn't know the job, then I would highly not recommend this job. Inwokukd not recommend working for Alside, other building supply companies are far more superior in price, pay, benefits.
Pros
8 hours, medical benefits
Cons
Terrible management, highly stressful

Work and pay was decent. Upper management, not so much
Driver/Warehouse (Former Employee) –  Fayetteville, NCMay 31, 2018
My ops manager was great, but above him it was all about that dollar. They didn't care about the average worker. Pay was ok for this area, but could have been better. There was an environment where if you were willing to work then you got a lot put on you, however if you are the type to sit in your truck at a jobsite for an hour then you had it made and not a lot asked of you. They typically employ 2 drivers, and have been open at my location about 4 years. So far that I know of, they have been through about 8 drivers which averages out to 6 months per driver. If things get slow, you can be assured you will not get 40 hours.
Pros
Decent work for the pay and benefits, home every night
Cons
Unfair work environment, slow time, cut throat upper management.

Very Good Management & Caring Environment
Driver (Former Employee) –  Pittsburgh, PAOctober 24, 2018
The Pittsburgh facility is truly run like a family environment. The Warehouse/office has roughly 25 employees, all of whom know one another’s names and very respectful.

The facility manager seems to truly care about the well being of his employees. He will ask you about your family, life outside of work, and treat you as a friend and equal.

I worked as a driver. You would typically have between 3-6 deliveries per day in about a 100 mile radius of Pittsburgh. Some deliveries could be more challenging than other based upon the weather, layout of land, and if there were contractors to help you unload your truck. The trucks are leased through Ryder, therefore are relatively new and run well compared to many other companies. The company also provides yearly hourly raises that typically range between $1.00 and $0.35. I went from making $15.00 per hour to a little over $17 in three years.

The downside of working here is wages and healthcare that could be a bit better. Also an occasional lack of communication or understanding by office staff as to where certain towns are, thus making your work day very long if you have to travel hours between delivery destinations. Also business is slow in the winter and hours are cut and sometimes people are laid off.

Overall, I enjoyed working here and would recommend the company. If your only goal is money, maybe it isn’t the best place for you.
Pros
Great Environent, Caring Management, Not Too Stressful
Cons
Pay & Healthcare Could Be Better, Lack Of Work During Winter

If you have no problem working hard lifting heavy items and making sure you're safe at the same time also making sure that the customer experience is a good one learning the product and moving with the case of the operation it's a perfect job not for the weak based on these boxes that you listed in or very very heavy and it's a repeated motion thousand times a day other than that if you would like to work out and get paid so great job highest paid in the city for the position
Pros
Hours benefits pay
Cons

Ran poorly. Had been thru 3 managers in last 2 years. Treated like a forklift while the other driver couldn’t do his job. Would advise against them
Driver/Warehouse (Former Employee) –  Saint George, UTMarch 19, 2018
Over worked. Under staffed. Management was poorly ran. Always had to try to make excuses for the management not doing. What he told customers was going to be done. One of worst run companies I have worked for. System from the 80’s. Not very efficient. Doubled and tripled monthly goals with no raise and not having the staff to do it. Over worked under paid

Cons
A lot of different issues.

Great place to work. Like the people who are there and management is great to work for. Teamwork is mentioned alot and safety is a talked about also, sometimes too much.
Sometimes it is very busy , but like working with customers. They do a pretty good job in hiring but occasionally one slips through.
Ok medical and 401k. Pay is decent. Great hours. Sometime OT is needed but not often.
Pros
Good people to work with and good hours
Cons
Could pay better

Hard Work, good times.
Warehouse employee (Former Employee) –  Ogden, UTOctober 18, 2018
Everyone at Alside shows up to work hard and get done what needs to be done. The work can be really busy, but at times can slow down and you'll be scanning around for things to do. The days go fast as long as you keep yourself busy with work. Great place to work during college, but you can also move up in the company and achieve a career.
Pros
Great place to get a workout in, paid vacations, fun times.
Cons
Lunches aren't paid, rough environment.

Temporary job, no room for growth
Driver/Warehouse (Current Employee) –  Arlington, TXMarch 4, 2018
This is a company that refuses to adapt to modern ideas of thinking and technology who's sole mantra is "if it isn't broke, don't fix it." There is absolutely no room for career growth and despite doubling/tripling company profits, management scoffs at the idea of giving their employees raises. Throughout your tenure when working at this place you will be introduced to a policy in which they treat like the 10 commandments only to discover that that same policy bends and folds depending on who/what they feel like applying it too. Training for your job and teaching about product knowledge is little to nonexistent, and oftentimes I'm not sure that legal business practices are even being upheld. Upper management oftentimes will mock their customer base as being "the bottom of the barrel of society" while seemingly having no problem doing business with them despite employees voicing concerns of their safety when presented with numerous racist/homophobic threats. Work for this company for no longer than 6 months and use it as a transitional type of job and you will be ok but don't rely on it as your only source of income. You will always be understaffed and ill-equipped with the tools necessary to complete your job and will be met with a shoulder shrug should you decide to seek help from management.
Pros
decent work hours, major holidays off
Cons
no advancement opportunities or raises.

Inside Salesman (Former Employee) –  Sacramento, CAJanuary 20, 2019
I loved working at Alside. My manager was the best in the business he taught me more then just how to work at the business but also how to take what i learned and apply that to my everyday life. He showed me that a manager should lead by example and hard work not just sit behind a desk and hide from work that needed to be done. Im very grateful to have worked at Alside.

ISS Project Manager (Current Employee) –  Nashville, TNOctober 30, 2018
I had no idea how poorly i had been treated at my previous job before starting with Alside. Their hiring process took about 6 weeks total but it was well worth it. Everyone works as a team and their is no micromanaging unless it is needed. They do a good job of hiring professionals to do professional work in their scope of work.

Warehouse Associate (Current Employee) –  Arlington, TXApril 12, 2018
Management loves to play favorites and there are too many cliques. If you are not in their clique, they will make your life a living mess. No room for advancement. When a position opens up, they would rather hire someone outside of the company instead of hiring from within. Do not walk away from this job...RUN AWAY!!!
Pros
Decent pay, set schedule, weekly paychecks
Cons
Bad management, cliques, will not promote from within
