Long hours, untrustworthy upper management
Assistant Service Center Manager (Former Employee) –  Hammond, LAApril 3, 2019
Day starts at 4:45 am and its go-go-go all day until 4:30-5: 30 pm. Technicians fix units and are held to a 2 units per hour and an invoiced average per hour for good standing, even though there is no control over how many, what kind of units come in, or what is wrong with them. This only counts if the unit is repaired and invoiced. If one needs parts ordered... tough. In house management is a flurry of printed pages, DOS mode programs, and phone calls while getting micro-managed to death by area managers who bounce around through a 5+ state area, and a far away, very busy and stressed out "corporate" complete with blindsiding office politics, names with no faces, and overlapping jobs for each title, which is confusing. However, there are quite a few shining stars that try to help you. All learning and training is done through a "watch how I do it, now you do it while I watch you" 5 step routine, supplemented by an impressive. extensive, and in some key places dated, excel
hard drive instruction manual that you have to dig out of a computer running Windows 7 and Net Nanny's evil big sister. The facility is dark, no heat, no ac except for the manager's office which only has it to keep the server and printers running, you can't see out of the few windows, building leaks during rain, the only hot water is in the bathroom and an upstairs kitchen. No wifi, bring your data plan if you want music. The crew is very small, but work together in survivalist mode, But, employees are discouraged heavily against forming friendships, and hanging out outside of work is seriously frowned
more... upon. But that's okay because the turnover rate will make your head spin. You are told 40/hr week on taking the job, but be prepared for 55-65 hours on salary and 30-40 hourly, no overtime allowed. Make waves at all, even accidentally, and your job will be posted the same day you get ambushed and bullied into signing a resignation letter with a vague reason for dismissal.  less
Pros
I learned a lot about lawnmowers, you can afford to pay someone to clean your house that you are only in to sleep and change clothes, free cardboard boxes
Cons
You forget the sun exists, the passage of time becomes blurry. No dental.

Technician II (Former Employee) –  Grand Prairie, TXJanuary 25, 2019
It was seasonal work and it was a great place to work. My favorite place of all times, even though it was boring monotonous work. My manager and coworker had a great time while working. My Jersey boy Manager was honest, fair, upfront, and let you pretty much make your schedule.
Pros
Schedule, staff, hours
Cons
Benefits, seasonal

Driver (Former Employee) –  Dunn, NCJanuary 21, 2019
Just not a good place to work. Management does nothing but complain about everything & shows favoritism. The lead driver is a fat overweight guy who always picks the easiest route & gives the other drivers the long hard routes. Its a seasonal job so if you're not desperate for work, do not work there.
Pros
Work 4 days a week
Cons
No benefits, its seasonal, long hours, hard work with little pay

Small engine repair technician (Current Employee) –  Livonia, MIOctober 18, 2018
Typically there is not enough work for you to have a full 8 hour day. The only true benefit of this job is that the managers are willing to teach someone how to work on small engines and the company offers certification testing which can be used to find better employment.
Pros
Relaxed workplace
Cons
Short breaks, low hours, low pay, no advancement

TRUCK DRIVER (Current Employee) –  Detroit, MIOctober 2, 2018
You have your long and short routes. You'll have days when you have many or several units to pick up or drop off, rather if it's during summer or in winter. Bosses who'll listen to what you have to say and see what they can do to make things go smoothly for you. The job keeps you busy and you'll learn new ways to be more helpful for Altaquip.
Pros
Stable job and good managers
Cons
No vision nor dental plans

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  Kennesaw, GAJune 13, 2018
Service manager is lazy, avoiding any managerial duties at all cost. Horrible culture. Run as far away from this organization as you can. Service Manager treated people with disrespect. Absolutely worst job I have ever had. Extreme turnover rate. Difficult work environment. Large portion of the leadership and associates are extremely resistant to change. Heavily political environment. Very racist environment.

Administrative Specialist (Former Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHJune 12, 2018
Would not recommend working for Altaquip, they don't really have a long term plan as their only client is Lowes. Could be a better culture as they don't really train their employees properly.

Class a tractor trailer driver (Former Employee) –  Hammond, LAMay 31, 2018
The pay for a class a driver should be more. My manager and assistant manager were great. I enjoyed the interaction with the customers and the stress free atmosphere. What is required to operate a tractor trailer safely and to adhere to the current regulations the pay should have been higher.
Pros
No stress from my manager
Cons
Short hours and low pay scale
