very hypocritical staff, that doesn't seem to care about its residents
Reentry Specialist (Former Employee) –  Columbus, OHFebruary 19, 2019
A typical workday consist of scanning in all residents and making sure they are accounted for or logged out on itinerary. Throughout the day continuing to do "house checks." At times i would partake in lock downs, watch surviellance camera's, do new intakes on residents coming from prison and the courts.
Pros
hands on learning of the justice system
Cons
lack of advancement, sarcasm, not caring

A typical day would be to come in and check out clients where about and to check over shift logs as well as a debriefing with co -worker about situations concerning that day.I also would have to find out which manager would be on duty. The culture at Alvis is ok.

Upon working at Alvis for a good while, I found that management is poor, they are extremely short staffed due to the fact that they believe anyone over the person it involves. You will be accused of anything but what you actually do. You will not advance, they will give you a position then take it from you. They have ran off most good staff. Finding drugs is an every day thing, but they are not taken serious, if you kiss a lot of rear end then this would be a good job for you.

Home Manager (Former Employee) –  Columbus, OHAugust 24, 2018
During my time at Alvis I watched members of upper management belittle home managers and lay blame on them for things they told them to do. I watched numerous good staff quit without notice. Some home managers tried but after awhile it was no longer a positive work environment and it went to heck quick.

Program Director (Current Employee) –  Columbus, OHAugust 3, 2018
Alvis has a great mission to help clients. They do not compensate much and overwork their managers. There is very little work/life balance. The clients suffer because of the high turnover in management. There are no strong leaders to lead the staff that they have and if there is a strong leader in the position then they are overworked and cannot train them properly.

Case Manager (Former Employee) –  Columbus, OHMay 31, 2018
Sadly Alvis does not care about their staff or their clients that they are taking care of. They are money hungry at the top of the chain. Lower chain does all the work and doesn't make much from it. I was constantly overworked and underpaid. While still trying to make sure that the clients were taken care of. Could be a great company if they didn't reward themselves with benefits and bonuses and actually practiced what the preach.

Community Re-entry Specialist /CRS (Former Employee) –  Lima, OHMay 11, 2018
What I most learned from the job is don't judge someone by the way they look. The hardest part of the job was seeing someone over dose and not realize how precious life is.However, the most joy-able part of the job is when you have been able to make a difference in someone's life.
Pros
Being able to make a difference in someone's life.
Cons
management could have been better

Alvis makes it a great point to better the lives of the clients and allowed me to learn how to better manage my time better and manage tasks by importance. It also gave me the opportunity to grow with networking within the community to pull in referrals. There does need to be better communication between management and staff to be able to better have a positive work environment.

Requirements and expectations are unrealistic for the manning. Employees are let go regularly with no explanation leaving others to fear for their job security. There are inconsistencies and double standards throughout.

I was terminated over the phone for something I didn't do and was given no chance to defend myself. They underpay for everything the job entails. The manager at the time had a clique of her favorite employees and clients. They send you to Columbus often for trainings.
