Reviews about Pay & Benefits for Flight Attendant in American Airlines

It's good, but could be better.

Okay benefits, and pay, but the travel benefits are great. I like that we get our space based on sequence of checkin rather than the more antiquated version of by seniority.

Wild adventure without work/life balance.

The first six months you are on probation as a flight attendant. It’s pertinent that if you are on call, you don’t miss calls from crew scheduling , otherwise it could cost you your job as a probation FA. The job kept me from often seeing loved ones, having to relocate to a large city (high cost), and fostered a deep loneliness. I also developed issues with sleep due to anxiety of missing a flight check in, etc. However, I never would have met so many random and cool people or gone to so many beautiful places around the world without the flight benefits. Management is constantly fluctuating because of high turnover rate, so it can be hard to know who to call if you have an issue. Another cool thing is if you don’t like working with someone, odds are you won’t ever have to work with them again, or VERY rarely. But that sadly means you rarely work with the cool colleagues ever again.

Pros

Flight benefits, insurance, flexibility in schedule.

Cons

Hard to get days off based off seniority, almost never home, dealing with unnecessary anger from the general public, being on call.

It was fun

It's tough at the beginning in terms of pay and schedule (reserve) but better the longer you stay. Lifestyle takes a bit of getting used to. Flight benefits are great, health insurance is decent, and the pay eventually gets pretty good.
