I’m not sure how managers are selected at American Eagle, possibly through a lottery? As they do not appear to have any professional training or skills. The manager at the Valencia, Ca store in particular is completely incompetent and severely lacks management skills, which I believe ultimately will cost the company money. If the manager doesn’t like you, rather than firing you, she just takes the passive aggressive route and doesn’t schedule you to work at all, however, technically you are of course still on the books as an employee. Personsally, I think it’s very unprofessional and a very childish way to handle business. Furthermore, she is very degrading to the employees, which creates a negative work environment. The bottom line; the manager at the Valencia, Ca store clearly manages by emotion such as jealousy over the female employees and uses her power to satisfy her own insecurities. Frankly, I believe if she remains the manager, the Valencia store will ultimately be forced to shut its doors permanently.

I have worked for the company since November of 2017, I worked at store 880 in Kalamazoo Michigan and at store 664 in Lansing Michigan. Since coming to work for the store in Lansing Michigan I was greeted with a hostile work environment. Their store manager is very difficult to work with. She is hostile, has been seen using derogatory names towards employees and fellow managers, and will yell at associates on the sales floor. She is the main reason I left my position at this store. If you are transferring from another store, do not come here. She will alienate you for being a transfer, will not tell you the guidelines she has for the store, and will not accept you. I have been forced to call corporate human resources because of the unfair treatment I received from the store manager. I will never work at this location again and I warn those who choose to apply to this location.

American Eagle doesn’t stand by its own values. One manger gets fired for offending someone by using profanity while a hostile work environment is allowed to persist in another store. Discrimination, retaliation and unfair and biased decision making that leads to high turnover
