About us
American Electric Power (AEP) is one of the nation's largest generators of electricity, with the ability to produce more than 38,000 megawatts. The company serves nearly 10 percent of the Eastern Interconnection across 38 eastern states and parts of Canada.

If you're looking for a career with a solid, long-standing company that offers competitive
 – more... pay and benefits including paid time off, a cash retirement plan, employee assistance plans, health, dental and vision coverage, flexible scheduling and possible telecommute options, American Electric Power could be the perfect fit for you. In 2012, AEP was named one of the Top Companies for Executive Women by the National Association for Female Executive Women.

Several employees praised AEP for offering a "nice work/life balance" and "great pay and benefits." The company also provides "hands-on training." However, some note that they have to work "extremely long hours" and there is "not much room for advancement unless you are located in Columbus, OH or Tulsa, OK."

Many wonderful caring people work there. There are some usual office politics.

Plenty of opportunities exist to learn and advance.
Generally not as employee focused as they used to be (probably true everywhere). Expect a 'right sizing' every 5 - 10 years accompanied by significant employee headcount reduction..

Lots of people retire from here with 20 - 45 years of service. Very rare!

HUGE safety culture.
