Great in some departments, could use work in others.

I’ve worked in both claims department and sales and service departments with American Family. In sales and service you truly feel the the upper management really cares about you as an individual and even with remote work they manage to maintain an engaging workspace. Wages are much higher and competitive than what is shown here. Minimum wage at American family is $20 an hour (since 2020). Amazing PTO accrual and paid holidays even for hourly employees. Opportunity for annual raises and large annual bonuses. Claims on the other hand is a completely different experience. You thankfully get most of the benefits that come with the working for American family like amazing health care, pension, and 401k benefits but they treat you like garbage (upper management not floor level managers). They are worse than Epic (known for running their employees into the ground) and have little respect for you as a person. Overall American Family Insurance is an absolute amazing place to work. Just be mindful of where you go in the company.

Pros

Amazing benefits, certain departments truly care about you and your well-being, inclusive environment.

Cons

No separate sick leave VS PTO bank in all states except Arizona, certain departments are unstable with low job security.

Good place to start

No room for advancement here, even though I was told when I was hired I would make more than $40,000 a year and advancement opportunities. I would stay if they offered raises, PTO, sick leave, and advancement opportunities but they do not.
