Its a okay company, but I just want more for myself. I just pick and pull orders, load and unload trucks. Clean the warehouse bathrooms. Basically straighten up the warehouse

commission based sales job.
Salesman (Former Employee) –  Vestal, NYOctober 9, 2017
lots of ups and downs. when you have merchandise to sell, its no competition.
not much to say, its dirty, long hours, 1 hour before opening and approx 1 hr after closing, so roughly 10 hour days every day whether or not there are customers.
draw is draw, if you don't hit it, mgt. tells you to "take the weekend off" ironically the busiest time of the week so that you cant' hit draw...
if your favored, you get promoted to the store you want. but if not, the only way to get a promotion is to be willing to move.. family or not, home owner or not..
the people you work with, if its for a long time, become like a family to you due to the UN godly amount of time you spend together. you fight, laugh, pick on each other.. try to keep each other motivated for hours at a time so when the next customer comes in your still on point.
its a sales job.. commission based.
you clock in, so there is a minimum wage make up if you dont hit draw, but in the event they have to pay that out too often, they tend to just let you go.

Sales Representative (Current Employee) –  Clarksville, TNSeptember 20, 2017
All men that work there and they are very childish. One thing will be ok to do one day and the next your getting yelled at for it. You cannot get any work done and not enough customers come in for you to get any real money. You only make 5% commission and they have too many people working there for you to make good money.

Manager (Former Employee) –  Baton Rouge, LASeptember 12, 2017
My experience as the ASM and store manager was eye opening. The place needs some renovations for the comfort of the employees and customers. However, I did overall enjoy my experience there because I created a comfortable environment for myself.
Pros
Great pay, assisting customers with color coordination, annual company rallies
Cons
Very long hours, extreme a/c and heat problems, unorganized

RETAIL SALES (Former Employee) –  North Tonawanda, NYSeptember 7, 2017
Sales staff meets and greets customer. Assesses their needs, and tries to find the best fit for their furniture and mattresses.
you have to be fast on your feet and be an aggressive sales person to close deals or you don't make money. There is no hourly pay. You make your own paycheck off of delivered sales.
Stress level is high. You do get two days off in a row. Weekends are a must.
I didn't need the medical insurance do to being on my wife's family plan through her employer. However I did use the dental and optical for the family.
If you are willing to relocate, you can advance quickly due to the fast growth of the company.
Pros
If you are a good sales person, you can make good money
Cons
Watch your back, There are many co-workers with no honor.

Room for Advancement
Store Manager (Current Employee) –  Charlotte, NCSeptember 7, 2017
With american freight you do have room for advancement. They are currently opening stores all over the US. The hours are long but you can make money if you are a salesman.

Warehouse Manager (Current Employee) –  Burnsville, MNSeptember 1, 2017
Highly stressful, and sales department does not assist warehouse while warehouse has to assist sales. Not a comfortable place to work for veterans or civilians.

Fast paced environment with a bit of stress involved
Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) –  Huntsville, ALAugust 30, 2017
The company is tough but fair. Being that it is a sales environment high expectations are demanded as well as strong performance, there is no room for mistakes and under performing. Advancement opportunities are everywhere ESPECIALLY if you're willing to relocate. However, the level of expectations for management highly outweigh the income provided. Often times the stress levels are high and much is demanded of management, but at times the rewards are far worth it. My only real issue with working for this company is that management is paid solely on commission and the demands of management often make it difficult to focus on making money. And with any sales environment or position, income is strongly dictated by the level of business in the store.
Pros
Rich advancement opportunities
Cons
No base salary for management

Great place to work with good group of guys was saddened to leave company.
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) –  Sanford, FLAugust 16, 2017
My experience at American Freight was very enjoyable. I was saddened to leave the company because of low pay, but overall the job was great. At times like any other job it can be very stressful, but I was able to build my working experience while operating within a team. I was also able to push myself in a fast paced enviorment, as well as learn how to use new machines and became great at being a stocker. Work place was always upbeat and co workers made it easy to come to work everyday.
Pros
Fast paced with good breaks
Cons
Low pay and no benefits.

Go Somewhere else
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLAugust 9, 2017
You work inside a very hot warehouse. You only get 5% per-sale. You need to make a minimum of $16,000.00 every two weeks in sales, to earn $800.00 bi-weekly. Managers and Assistant Managers are constantly taking customers, from the regular sales person. The managers do not earn a salary. They only get a bonus, if the store meets its monthly goals. Therefore, managers are forced to sell to earn a salary. Also a lot of the American Freight stores do not offer financing, so a lot customers take their business elsewhere. You have to lift heavy furniture, because they don't have enough warehouse personnel. Lastly, management has the tendency of altering an employee's timesheet.

Store Manager/Sales Manager (Current Employee) –  Whitesboro, NYAugust 8, 2017
Im currently the store manager at American Freight in Whitesboro. Its a great place to work with fast promotion within the company. The job/work life balance may seem difficult at first but this is a job where you need to be devoted and care about the company and the company will care for you. Some days are longer then others but what do you expect? its a full time job, and the pay is great! The higher ups do care about their employees as do the store managers. If you get your job done right and show you want to be here, management will see that and promote you as fast as possible. A typical day at work for sales is to come in, clean and sell... THATS IT!!!! Yes management has more responsibilities, but with more responsibilities means more pay.. I would recommend this place to work to anyone...
Pros
Pay, Promotions
Cons
some slow days

Asst. Manager (Former Employee) –  Miami, FLAugust 8, 2017
Enjoyable for someone who enjoys taking risks, killing it, and dealing with violent people. It's actually very entertaining at times, but usually mainly hot. Very hot. So drink plenty of water and take the money! And if you can't, T.O.!

Be Ready to work all day
Warehouse Associate (Current Employee) –  Columbus, OHAugust 6, 2017
A day would be like you show up and pull orders or deliveries for customers all day and sometimes you would get slammed. There are no water fountains, no where to sit down at and you don't get a lunch break you have to just find time for it. The pay isn't worth the hard work you do there.
Pros
Employee Discount, Bennifits
Cons
Long hours, not paid enough, no real breaks or lunch breaks
