Good fast paced job with the experience to move up
Rural Mail Carrier (Former Employee) - Eagle Pass, TX - March 16, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWhat is the best part of working at the company? Great learning experience to start off with. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Lack of communication from company supervisors/management with employees. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? At times, the work can be stressful and physically demanding. Work relationship with contractor and USPS is strained and uncooperative. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Some days you get lots of mail and packages and some days you won't. You case mail at the P.O. and load packages onto company van, then you head out on designated route to deliver mail and packages during the time permitted to complete the route.

Very poor and highly stressful job
Mail Carrier (Former Employee) - Helena, MT - October 13, 2022
The communication of the company is very poor and the ability to provide proper training and help is very poor also. They basically lied to the post office about sending help on the contract that they are supposed to take care of. The pay is good for the hourly wage. I’m not too sure about the benefits as to see your paystubs are through an app online. It is hard to access.

Productive
Mail Carrier (Current Employee) - Moses lake - August 19, 2022
Good pay but very hard to communicate with the office. Need to be a quick learner but productive through the day, if you want to be off in good time you have to stay very productive

Not good
Mail carrier (Former Employee) - Willimantic, CT - August 3, 2022
No benefits and per day pay which often feels like too little compensation for the amount of time worked, especially during busy parts of the years such as the winter holiday season.
Cons
Long hours, no benefits

Very supportive atmosphere
The norms at Ameritrans Express are very good. When I joined it, I was a little bit confused. But as the time passed, I feel more confident. Staff is very supportive. They pay competitive salary. I will be working here in future.

To many issues to describe with this company I work my self to death just to be demonize by coworkers and management took their side and let me go. I didn't have a reliable vehicle working in the winter of rual Alaska, had to takes vehicles to mechanic myself multiple times. Just overall very bad experience. Did pay good.

Worst company I've ever worked for
Rural Mail Carrier (Former Employee) - Two Harbors, MN - April 26, 2022
I stuck it out a year and a half because I actually enjoyed the job but the company and pay were such a joke I couldn't take anymore. Highly recommend not working for them.
Cons
Everything

Horrible management zero communication.
Rural Carrier Associate (Current Employee) - Michigan - October 17, 2021
If you're looking for a job where the employer dosent care about you, never communicates with you, dosent give you what you need and ask for, dosent pay correctly, and you have to fight tooth and nail for literally everything to get done. Then this is the company for you. Their lack of communication between each other and you is embarrassing at best. Everything is fighting for your rights and for things to be done.
Pros
Doing mail routes are enjoyable
Cons
Almost everything

Look for work with the Post Office directly, skip the 3rd party contractor entirely.
Rural Mail Carrier (Former Employee) - Willimantic, CT - July 30, 2021
Not certain how they maintain contracts with the postal service in so many states. Through out my employment here the pay was constantly short, and delayed. It took considerable debate often, even with proof of shifts worked, to receive back pay from the office. I also find it worthy of great note that their office staff was changing quarterly if not more, and new staff seemed less than oriented to their duties. Training is completed by ameritrans coaches however brief and lacking the training may be. Most of what you learn on the job is by mistake or through conversation with actual Postal Workers, who are conveniently unionized: a form of worker protection you won’t be afforded working for Ameritrans. This was my experience Pre-Pandemic and I’ve little if any reason to believe this has changed during the pandemic. I also would like to add that equipment and office supplies are something Ameritrans is well known for asking employees to pay up front for. So in short, if you would like to work at the Post Office but want to avoid these types of issues, I suggest just applying to the Post Office directly.
Pros
Always having mail to deliver
Cons
Working for an employer who cares about the profit margin and little else.

Good balance
Contractor/employee (Current Employee) - Dumfries, VA - May 11, 2021
I had 5 years experience working as a CCA for USPS. Heard about the contract through a friend at the local office. I'm not much for tooting my own horn but, I was probably the most qualified person to have applied in this small town. It's work I'm used to, so it doesn't bother me. You are required to have your own vehicle. They did lend me the money to buy another vehicle when my engine went out. 0% interest if paid in 6 months, quite nice of them. As long as you do your job, you'll rarely if ever hear from them. They were late paying me once but, they did call and tell me. It was only a day or so late. These things happen so no big deal. Hasn't happened since. Overall a decent company to work for. Though, depending on your position and location, you may have a different experience.
Pros
Decent, steady work
Cons
Wear and tear on vehicle, pay for fuel

Working for Ameritrans Express has been incredibly rewarding. The team environment is unparalleled, and the support from management is critical in the mission success here.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible
Mail Carrier (Current Employee) - Graeagle, CA - December 5, 2020
Poor communication skills, they never know what they are doing, takes them days to get back to you, they are never in the office, always have to call you back because they have to contact other people to find out whats going on, change your pay without notifying you or explaining why(you have to spend days doing your own research to figure things out) and fail to find replacements or help even if you have medical issues.
Pros
The people at the postal office are wonderful people (they are not Ameritrans employees).
Cons
Everything about Ameritrans

Don't waste your time
Rural Mail Carrier (Former Employee) - Indian River, MI - October 9, 2020
I've worked for them for a few years now. At first I had no problems. They never call you back if there is a problem. You have to call them over and over. Then they pass the buck to someone else who also never gets back with you. You have sick time taken out which you can never use unless it's scheduled. There's no rhyme or reason for the stuff they do. My pay was recent cut drastically and they won't try to make it right at all. You work an insane amount of hours and are paid daily so no matter how many hours you work your still paid the same.
Pros
You don't have someone watching over you all day.
Cons
No breaks, huge lack of communication, company is so far away that I've never even met any of them

Ridiculous pay
Cashier (Former Employee) - California - September 10, 2020
Ridiculous pay. They have to be outta their minds to pay $116 a day to use your own vehicle. I would charge $150-&175 alone just for the use of my vehicle ( Not including gas) and then an hourly rate on top of that!!! The funny thing, Is that people will apply without thinking it out. 🤦♂️

Do not waste your time with this company
Employee (Former Employee) - Dumfries, VA - February 21, 2020
this is the worst company I've ever worked for. They don't care for nothing except for their money. You do not want to work for this company, you'll regret it, I promise you. They secretly do things that aren't right. I wouldn't recommend this job to my worst energy

pay is not set on what was negotiated and fight for pay check every month.
sub contractor (Former Employee) - Campbell, MN - October 8, 2016
its hard to just have a typical day at work because your a contractor working under a contractor from another state. so you deal with things on your own. I learned everything on my own no one shows you or trains you on what to do. no co-workers closest co worker is in another state. delivering in poor weather conditions out in the middle of nowhere on gravel roads. being my own boss and the people i interacted with while delivering the mail packages to their door.
Pros
driving and enjoying the scenery
Cons
fighting for my paycheck every month and the lack of interest shown by my contracted boss.
