Good Company, Strict Call Center environment
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Riverside, CA - May 17, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGood Company, Strict Call Center environment. Union unfortunately could not save jobs for those at the center. The most enjoyable part of the position was the raise structure and being helpful to passengers..

Worst company I've ever worked for.
Trackman Watchman (Former Employee) - Perryville, MD - June 4, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The pay for certain job positions What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Having no actual individual value as a person. You're treated as a number. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Usually consists of a bunch of grown men acting like immature high school bullies that have minimum regards for track safety. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Frustrating, irritating, repetitive.

What is the best part of working at the company? retirement pension the pay plenty of different jobs. The hours are great. The ability to be able to move around to different states if you decide to move free train rides for you and your family and friends. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? It’s well diverse it’s a lot of mechanical, inventory, control, maintenance loading and loading vehicles, moving trains around heavy equipment operators What is a typical day like for you at the company? Some positions you work more than others most days are easy just come in to your job go home eight hour days some positions you can get lots of Over time and some positions very little

Good pay, good job, subpar management
Passenger Conductor (Current Employee) - Various - May 4, 2023
Work isn't bad and the money is addictive. Job requires learning and skill. Definitely not boring. Just be prepared for arm-chair quarterbacking from managers.

Great for a first job
Reservation Sales Agent (Current Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - May 3, 2023
Stable position, very rigorous work. Low pay combined with union extortion makes it not worth the hassle of being on the phone all day with seniors that aren’t able to use the internet.

Stay away
Helper (Former Employee) - Linden, NJ - April 27, 2023
Don't apply here if you want to have a life, you'll mostly be digging rocks no matter the weather. Most people working there hate their job and if you're hired you won't be paid for the first month so be aware of that. They can make you travel all over the NYC region to places inaccessible by train so if you don't have a car don't apply, if you have the choice of working here or somewhere else I'd say go to your other option
Pros
4/10 schedules
Cons
Toxic/unsafe work environment

Decent pay, long hours, and poor security
Train Attendant (Former Employee) - Los Angeles, CA - April 24, 2023
I worked with Amtrak for five months, before being furloughed. I returned a couple of months later, but resigned. The job was stressful for me, and I even became an alcoholic. Not all of my coworkers were friendly, but most were.

Work Culture
OBS (Former Employee) - Nationwide - April 18, 2023
The job seemed great if you're coming from retail or some other low paying job. You find out about benefits and think you struck gold. The stress from management, co workers, and passengers is not worth it. The work culture is full of nepotism and very cliquish like high school.

Trackman (Current Employee) - Wilmington, DE - April 15, 2023
Really good brothers. People are helpful. Safety is number one priority. Pay is pretty good. Follow instructions and everything is good. A few supervisors are kind of standoffish

Words truly cannot describe.
Substation Electrician (Former Employee) - Providence, RI - April 7, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Hide and seek for a grand a week is the motto at Amtrak. Anyone that is not lazy with any common sense gets exiled they put their worst employees at the top and the supervisors enjoy conflict and intentionally create it. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The politics worrying and about your own safety when in the hands of moronic people. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Toxic, stressful, lazy, hostile. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Show up at 6:00 am clock in Watch the Forman snore in his truck for 15 minutes 6:20 Ask the supervisor what the plan is for the day 6:21 Get told to ask your Forman 6:25 Ask the Forman what the plan is 6:30 Get told to ask the supervisor 6:32 Roll your eyes go outside smoke a cig and pace in the parking lot till 8:00 8:05 Load and unload the truck with random materials and tools because you were given no instruction and still have hope that maybe we will actually do something today. 8:15 Take a trip to cafe tempo sit and have coffee for an hour and a half 10:30 Plan out lunch 11 Drive to Boston to get lunch. 12-1 eat lunch 1-2 drive back and clock out then go home. 2-2:15 sit in vehicle in disbelief that your taxes have been paying for thousands of employees to have this day every day for years.

Machine Operator (Former Employee) - Washington, DC - April 7, 2023
It was a decent job, but I never was able to get the promotion that I was promised. So I had to find employment elsewhere, and Covid happened so that didn’t make it any better
