Reviews about Pay & Benefits for Police Officer in Amtrak
Great benefits, no expectations
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - September 20, 2021
Almost impossible to be fired. Guaranteed raises, management protects squeaky wheels, hard work is vilified because people are afraid that everyone will be asked to do more. Union dues are paid by everyone, but only employees that steal need the lawyers. The lawyers help the thieves keep their jobs. The pros are also the cons, because it’s a matter of perspective.
Pros
Guaranteed raises and benefits
Cons
Attracts the worst types of employees

Benefits are ok
Police Officer (Current Employee) - Boston, MA - June 25, 2021
Benefits are ok. Different regions have different priorities. New England has the most passengers but hardly any “crime”. The belief is that if they find crime on the trains, people will not want to ride the trains, so they guide officers towards not “finding” crime.
Pros
Overpaid
Cons
Under-inspired

Amtrak police great gig, toxic management
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - April 5, 2021
I worked for APD for several years. From the start I could feel that something wasn’t right, I just was unable to pinpoint exactly what the problems were. However, it only took a few WEEKS to see that management is as crooked as can be. Some “supervisors” have no business being supervisors and are incredibly unprofessional and in some ways their actions are borderline criminal. The job itself isn’t hard at all. The department does like statistics as long as you aren’t making arrests because they don’t want high arrest numbers as they’re a corporation. They would rather you pull a case number for looking at a passenger and saying hi and calling that a case. If a Captain or higher doesn’t like you, game over they’ll walk you right out those doors faster than they could. The fellow officers make the job great. There is SOME camaraderie throughout the department and some of the travel opportunities and gigs you’ll get to work once you’ve been on a few years are not bad. The only bad part is how nasty and micromanaging management can be. The money and benefits are unbeatable but the strain on mental health is very tolling. I never wanted to quit a place as badly as this place and that’s sadly common theme within members of the department.
Pros
Benefits, Pay
Cons
Management, Supervisors, Drama, mental health
