Good benefits & many locations within the district

Heavy load of expectations with curriculum. New curriculum being added all the time, but nothing removed from the load that was already too much to cover “with fidelity”.

Wonderful, my forever home

No school district is perfect, but the Anoka Hennepin School District will always be home to me. It had its challenges with behavior and good and bad days, but it is the best place I’ve worked

Very difficult to do a good job when one doesn't know the rules and expectations

What is the best part of working at the company? There is none. The lack of training was confusing - and eventually led to creating an unhealthy work environmentWhat is the most stressful part about working at the company?Lack of communication between administration and it's employees and complete lack of training. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? People are moved around into different roles without explaination but holding the employee accountable for knowing the new role and what was needed for each student. What is a typical day like for you at the company? No communication and unspoken expectations between employees and administration so very isolating and confusing

Just a number. Admin says they want to listen but they really don't care. Poor pay. Friendly coworkers. About what you would expect from a public school system.

Typical High School Atmosphere

Teachers are friendly and good teammates. Administration is typically supportive but generally does not receive criticism with an open mind; leadership styles fluctuate dramatically.

Passionate staff in a busy classroom

Hours are flexible but you do need to be there 15 minutes before class and 15 after but you can choose how early or late you stay. Hours are compensated. There are a lot of curriculums but after a couple years of learning how they work together it gets better. Families are mostly great and supervisors are supportive and understanding.

Pros

Love helpign families

Cons

Families who are not very kind.

Nice easy job

Pretty simple and relaxing if you like cleaning. The supervisors are usually pretty nice. Picking your hours is the best part of the job. Pay is good for the amount of work.

Amazing people, not great pay.

I met some of the nicest people I've ever met while working at AH. Working in schools is tough because of the lower pay and restricted budgets. I moved on to pursue higher salary and more opportunities.

Commute is convenient

Go work for Anoka Hennepin schools if you want to be perpetually poor. The pay and benefits suck, the management is overbearing, there is no work-life balance, the only job security/advancement available is to teachers, and even they are unionized. That tells you all you need to know. And let's not even talk about job culture. What job culture? There is a complete lack of disrespect, complete disregard for confidentiality regarding students/colleagues, and in general, an outright toxic environment.I would only make one recommendation regarding Anoka-Hennepin Schools: avoid the entire system like the bubonic plague.

Micromanagement at all levels

No advancement. There are administrators who will talk down to you and don't appear to appreciate or understand different college degrees unless you are an " educator". Lots of criticism and complaints dealt out with very few to no thanks in return. Dysfunctional work environment from district office to all school site job professions.

Pros

Summer off

Cons

Little to no breaks, no offers of help

i love it

I just recently started (about 1 month ago) - we have a huge lack in staff but I absolutely love my job! The kids are so fun to be around & Mostly all the staff are so friendly. Everyone has such a awesome bond with the kids its so neat to see. I just really enjoy it there!

Pros

The kids, friendly staff, good hours

Cons

short staffed

Wonderful supervisors. Flexible hours. Good pay.

I have had wonderful supervisors who have really cared about me as a person and not just as an employee. As a substitute custodian, the hours are very flexible as you get to pick up whatever shifts you want. The pay is also good.

Pros

Great supervisors. Flexible hours. Good pay.

Cons

Labor intensive/physically demanding.

Great kids. Good staff. Bad management and leadership

Lack of leadership has left us with kids in charge. No consequences,I’m exhausted, limited support from school district, lack of staff, (I do realize all schools are struggling).

Pros

Friendly staff Good special classes Decent benefits

Cons

Very short on staff Kids with no boundaries

Great pay and supportive administration but micromanaged from the district level.

The pay scale is actually a little above from what the surrounding districts pay, working in special education you will receive an abundance of curriculum to work with and support and training with how to use all of it, and you will receive an overwhelming amount of assistance from the district supervisors and special education lead. This can be both good and bad in regards to if you are a new teacher or not; but coming in with years of experience I felt like everything was very micromanaged. The district's health insurance company is Medica and they have a lot of plans to choose from. Medica has been a horrible provider to work with. Overall, great kids, great school, great staff, great pay.

A rewarding career, but not great pay

I love the kids I work with and my coworkers are great! My direct supervisor is also great and provides feedback and support when needed. The pay is not great, especially for the stress of the job and risk of physical injury.

Solid Place for a High School/College Student

You can pick the days you work on an app during the school year and it is 4 or 8 hours depending on what is available. The job is really simple, you just meet with the building supervisor tells you your section then you go and do it at your own pace (within 4 or 8 hrs). In the summer it is the same either 4 hours or 8 and you basically clean from top to bottom of the school.

Pros

Flexibility

Good school district

Anoka Hennepin is a good school district to work for. Nice and diverse staff and students. Most students are willing and ready to learn. The staff is friendly and good to work with.

Working with the students has no price tag.

Working at Anoka Hennepin for me was very rewarding. I loved the students. Very well behaved and respectful. They wanted to learn more and more. I had a wonderful time every day.

Pros

Being told that I made a difference in their life.

Cons

Hours were short and could have been paid more per hour like other school districts.
