AIS cares about your career path and will help you along the way. They provide the tools and learning curriculum you need to pursue your career path, where it be Development or a Microsoft SME.

A great place to work
Infrastructure Consultant (Former Employee) –  Reston, VAMarch 4, 2018
Applied Information Sciences is a wonderful place to work. It is made up of very passionate and very nice people. It's almost like a family when everyone is around. It's also rare for there to be a lot of people in the main office, so it's really fun to see everyone at the many company sponsored social events and happy hours.
Pros
Really fun and talented people to work with
Cons
Headquarters is in Reston, Va.

Good People, predominantly Software Development
SharePoint Analyst (Current Employee) –  Reston, VAMarch 4, 2018
AIS is a growing software development company with very good people, and they also try very hard to encourage communication and feedback among the employees. Management is generally humble and willing to listen to employees.

Over the past few years, AIS has heavily embraced Microsoft Azure development, and has won national awards for solutions they have provided. This is noted, but not overly emphasized, reinforcing the down to earth feel of the corporate culture.

As most of the work is contract work, the typical day is dictated by the environment of the client, which is where most employees will work. Project and program managers make a point of sponsoring team specific employee events so that the teams under their management can get to know each other.

The culture of AIS fosters communication, openness and collaboration. One aspect that I personally found empowering was the ability to chat with senior management, and receive thoughtful response. For the most part, they were accessible to employees, and willing to communicate. Monthly company All Hands conference calls are held, and minutes and transcripts are made available within 24 hours of the call.

The one area where AIS could improve is communication regarding employee career advancement. AIS works with the employee for skill and career development, but needs to be more timely in feedback to the employee regarding career goals and skills progress.
Pros
Good Work Life balance, Emphasis on collaboration, ESOP program, Opportunities to current skill improvement.
Cons
Feedback regarding employee training needs to be improved

Great benefits, horrible upper management
Private (Current Employee) –  Reston, VAMay 23, 2017
Great benefits, horrible upper management. If you want a stable place this is not it. Upper management needs to focus on being leaders and moral ground.
