Appraisal Services was a Sole Proprietor company that employed independent contractors for residential appraisal service. The owner trained each of us, personally, and allowed us to grow into Licensed and/or Certified Appraisers. The hardest part of this job were all the years of training and learning, which proved to be the most rewarding at end, when I ventured into my own appraisal business.

I am self employed and would like to work in a friendly office as an administrative assistant to agents or a case processor. Since the economy has declined so has the amount of real estate business. Looking to improve my income.
There was not a typical day at work. I learned about budgeting, working in Higher Education, different management styles, hardest part often time too much work for one person. Most enjoyable part working in a progressive environment with intelligent people.
A typical day includes going on appraisals and meeting with clients and taking photos and measurements. Then research is conducted on comparable properties and the data is entered into the computer. I then keep track of files in electronic and paper format. I learned proficient office skills, organization, self management and team work, as well as the importance of integrity. The hardest part would be going on appraisals in the winter because of the snow and working outside. I enjoyed helping my mother run the business and had a great sense of pride.
