Financial Services (Current Employee) –  Medina, OHJanuary 6, 2019
I have worked in the Financial Services area for 15+ years. Was a great company to work for when it was Panther. Since ArcBest took over, the morale is bottom of the barrel. They do not appreciate their employees. There is no job security. The knowledge of Management is non existent. They rely on the workers to explain how to do the job since they don't have the first clue what needs to be done. The only good thing I can say about the company is the insurance benefits are great.... that is the only reason I stay.
Pros
Insurance
Cons
Poor management, very low morale

Truckload Fulfillment Coordinator-High Touch (Current Employee) –  Fort Smith, ARJanuary 29, 2019
I was an employee for 3.5 years but only received 2 minor raises during my time and no promotions. I enjoyed the people I worked around and the nature of the business. The hardest part of the job was market fluctuations and keeping up with the average rates.
Pros
fun place to work
Cons
very few raises or opportunity for growth

Good company, willing to promote if you are willing to switch between operations and sales. Union drivers hurt the company and make it hard to be competitive.

Great place if you need benefits or just starting out. Fast past when busy. Very dependent on the auto industry. Some groups are paid better for doing less. So watch what vertical you hire into. If you don't like taking or making calls then this is not a place for you.
Pros
Benefits are great
Cons
Pay is bad while company sets record income

account manager (Former Employee) –  Fort Smith, ARDecember 27, 2018
*Constantly making major changes to procedures and software causing long delays in processing and days of glitches.
*No real tracking of current rates for lanes therefore quotes too high to gain new business.
-Anonymous company reviews by employees not really anonymous.
*Possible trolling of review sites to punish previous employees.
*Managers with successful backgrounds but no clue as to assist struggling sales people with increasing business.
*Uneven distribution of leads causing busy account people to waste good contacts and other account people working harder making random cold calls.
*Great insurance rate and coverage.
*Good time off.
Pros
Great insurance and time off.
Cons
More difficult than it needed to be.

Leader in the Expedited market, can be a very good place to work. Lack of management skills in some parts of the company, but overall laid back and fast atmosphere at Panther. Cannot be the cost and level of health insurance anywhere. PTO is very fair and competitive. Great balance of work and personal life. Big draw back, hard to advance and lower than market value pay.
Pros
Health Care, Environment
Cons
Pay and advancement

Not what you would expect
Account Manager (Former Employee) –  Multiple LocationsMarch 5, 2018
Typical day, you look for non-existent customers. In the Texas office you more or less find what is left behind. Heard its similar to the Arkansas ones.
Learned how to quote different shipments and equipment. Lots of different logistics terms and experience.
Management sometimes doesn't assist with what you need. Very vague when it comes to progressive questions. Shut you down quickly when you have ideas. Like other establishments, if you don''t bring in money, they don't make money. That would always push them to push you more without any real gratitude. The overall hush hush tones every manager would have is what annoyed everyone the most. Turnover is high. The workplace is toxic, cut throat, and undesirable to work with.
Hardest part was working with a culture that always changed because of the failings of upper management and the animosity in the air. Everyone was upset and there only because they are searching positions elsewhere. This position is not what you think it is. Those who get territories in the middle of no where, will have no help from their outside reps. They pay handsomely but the work is not worth it.

The most enjoyable part was learning the logistics field.
Pros
Pay, time off
Cons
Toxic people, animosity

Caters to young people
Analyst (Current Employee) –  Fort Smith, ARApril 18, 2018
If you're young and recently graduated college, you'll like it. They take care of their new employees. Seasoned employees though, not so much. They reward/promote the young over the experienced older people. Very poor management. Don't promote based on experience or quality, promote based on who you know, who your friends are. Don't make workers accountable for mistakes or being on time. A good work ethic is not appreciated. In fact, if you're very personable, the less work you have to do and you get rewarded. the less work you do and friendlier you are, the more likely you'll move up.

It is a relaxing environment but can be stressful at times. It really depends on which department you are working in. In IT, it is really fast paced. The management is okay. Not many progressive managers.

Truck Load Sales Account Manager (Current Employee) –  Plano, TXFebruary 25, 2018
Insurance is great - rest needs little improvement
Best insurance, I've had, but the compensation is below what other's pay. Management tries to do a good job, there seems to be a lack of real coaching and mentoring.
Plano office is full of good people, and almost everyone is very friendly and well meaning.
Pros
insurance

Flexible Work Schedule with A Great Company Atmosphere
Accounts Payable Specialist - Student Worker (Current Employee) –  Fort Smith, ARJune 22, 2018
It is one of the company's priorities to put school above career. This makes the managers very understanding when you need to take time off to study for big tests, etc. They also seem very understanding of family issues.

Project Management Intern (Former Employee) –  Fort Smith, AROctober 9, 2018
Arcbest is okay to work for. Didn't really love it, but its a paycheck. There was not much of a family feel and everyone just kind of looked after themselves. As an intern I didn't really feel impressed or welcomed.
