Good stepping stone
Correctional Officer (Current Employee) –  Texarkana, ARDecember 17, 2017
If you like working overtime without being paid for it this is the place for you. Rank does not back there workers. Yes free meals very rarely you'll want to eat it unless you are starving. Pay is ok for the area since this is low security.

Probation and Parole Officer (Former Employee) –  Texarkana, ARJuly 17, 2017
This is a good place to work but the turnover is extremely high based on the demands of the job. The number of offenders well out-weigh the employees thus causing it to be extremely stressful work environment.

Department
Correctional Officer (Former Employee) –  Wrightsville, ARApril 5, 2017
ADC was a experience within its self. When I first started there I had little to no training at all.. The first week that I was there they put me in a double barrack. with 100+ inmates and I was left there for 6mths. from that point on it was every man for him self. if you asked questions or needed help it would seem like a problem to ask for help to even get in touch with someone. if you didn't know the answer it was best to just figure it out for your self and hope that it didn't come back and bite you in the butt.

Inmates are easy
Officer (Former Employee) –  Malvern, ARJanuary 6, 2017
The problem with ADC is the administration from Sgt on up they are the laziest people in ADC. Inmates word will trump an officer's due to the fact it's easier to fire an employee even when he is right than deal with a frivolous lawsuits. Constant stress from supervisors for no reason. They make up their own policies as they go. Always short handed due to supervisor running them off because they are not in the click. Never can get time off due to staff shortage but supervisors have no problem getting days off.
Pros
Pay
Cons
Always short handed and have to watch your back

Rewarding career
Area Manager (Current Employee) –  Little Rock, AROctober 13, 2016
Rewarding career that gives you a great opportunity to help people. Job security is a major plus in this field. This is a state job with Monday through Friday work hours. Cell phones and vehicles are supplied to some employees.

Serious management issues at the home office.
Buyer (Former Employee) –  Little Rock, ARJune 26, 2016
Avoid this place if you can. Upper management completely ignores serious HR issues. Bad behavior tends to get rewarded in some while minor issues are blown out of proportion in others. Difficult place to work for any length of time.
Pros
Home office hours
Cons
You can't trust your supervisors to behave responsibly. Turnover rate is bad for a reason.

Productive agency providing a safe environment for local communities
Parole Officer II (Current Employee) –  Little Rock, ARNovember 30, 2015
A typical work day for me would include meeting with offenders to review their file, any changes in their life that may have occurred, checking on their supervision fee balance, drug testing, making referrals for GED, Mental Health, Substance Abuse, etc., conducting home visits, conducting parole revocation hearings, transporting offenders, meeting and collaborating with other staff members and writing notes and reports. I have learned a vast amount of information since being in this position and have gained pertinent knowledge that will help me when working with and counseling clients in the future. The most enjoyable part of my job is contributing to community safety and helping most offenders transition into being productive members of society.

Extremely stressful. Very poor upper management
Lieutenant (Former Employee) –  NWACC Unit - Fayetteville ARDecember 2, 2014
Short staffed is the normal. Rotating shifts. You get two weekends off every five weeks. If you are a female and work in a female unit you are subject to be called in on a moments notice for ANY SHIFT. If you are called and don't call back you will be written up and/or terminated. Under-paid, the starting rate of pay is the lowest correctional pay in Arkansas corrections. You are required to be at work regardless of the weather, you will be wrote up and/or terminated if you don't report for work on a snow day. You do not get breaks as normal work places provide, it is written in the policy like this. Be for warned, the burn out rate for the Department of Community Corrections is extremely high. Also, upper management will dig into your personal life, your Facebook account will be watched. People have been terminated from the NWA unit for their Facebook page.
