I felt the culture was great. The people are awesome and you feel like everyone is there to help each other. However, upper management was terrible at making decisions ultimately leading to the failure of the company.

Management doesn't know how to run a company
Manager (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PAJanuary 7, 2019
Constant restructuring and massive layoffs every six months. Selling the company off in chunks. Won't be around in a couple of years. CEO was brought in to divest the company over five years. Senior Executives only care about getting their bonuses at the expense of firing employees every six months.

they have been dividing the company up and selling it for the past 3 years
Director/Sr. Manager Merchandising (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PADecember 11, 2018
The culture is such that they rely on the pas and don't want to innovate or lead. They have lost so much market share, they have had to sell of product families and factories to stay a float. They will be completely dissolved in 2 years time
Cons
short sighted, looking in the rear view mirror, slow to change, stubborn

Armstrong Flooring Sales Organization
Regional Market Manager (Current Employee) –  Lancaster, PANovember 20, 2018
Recent changes at Armstrong Flooring has seen many skilled sales associates leave the organization. In the past Armstrong had a very stong sales team with excellent leadership, this is not the case now.

The company has gone through three major re-orgs in the last year and a half, challenging to work at Armstrong.

Career opportunities were good for a long time, but then they started forcing older people out of jobs and into early retirement w. reduced benefits.
Principal Scientist - Flooring and Vinyl (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PANovember 15, 2018
Flooring Division went downhill. Management Issues. Forced out lots of experienced and knowledgeable staff. Building Products Ceilings seems to be strong and doing really well. Floor Division stopped being family oriented - stopped hosting picnics and other social events and patent parties and luncheons to honor service anniversaries.
Pros
Offer Employee Merchandise Discounts and student scholarships
Cons
forcing people into early retirement, holding people back on salary PIR Ranges

Bulk Packer (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PANovember 11, 2018
I got instructions for the shift. Worked as a team to complete tasks. Enjoyed accomplishments. Physically the job was demanding. It was a very dirty job as I worked with lime. Precision was necessary in packing tiles. It was a very fast paced job. It was a seasonal job. We were responsible for keeping work areas clean.

Maintenance Electrician (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PAOctober 28, 2018
Relaxed Environment. Even the management doesn’t care
Some of the nicest people to work with other then those who have been their over 30 years.
They are lazy and intitled spoiling it for others.
The management at the plant is wish washy some days they have no isea. The corporate Is clueless and has no value of hard working people. They could care less about an good employee. You are nothing but a number. It would be a all star company if it wasnt for corporate office in lancaster. Their HR personal come and go more the the factory workers. The same goes for other managemt positions. It Union so there is alkway a Riff The pay isnt bad for unskilled labor at all. But the demands for working hours are high. It was a good place to work at one time

Used to be a great place to work
Marketing/Merchandising Specialist (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PASeptember 21, 2018
Armstrong Flooring used to be a great place to work. However, in recent years, the company was more interested in the bottom line than their employees.

Company Keeps Losing and Leadership Team is Deceptive
Employee (Current Employee) –  Lancaster, PAApril 2, 2018
Last year, Armstrong had a loss in income, yet messages from the leadership team tell us we’re on the right track and keep up the hard work. They keep doing the same things expecting different results.

Easy place to work for
Machine Operator (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PAMarch 21, 2018
For the most part its a good job. Overtime is never mandatory except if they schedule Saturday. Bosses think they own you. But if you do your work your ok. Its a union job which means your guaranteed raises. But you dont need to be in union to get your raises. In my opinion don't join the union when you need them most they don't help. Not worth them taking a percentage of your check.
Pros
Good money, overtime
Cons
Union doesnt help you at all do t give them yohr money

Good place to start your career
Outside Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PAMarch 1, 2018
Armstrong was a much better company to work for 10-20 yrs ago.
They have a pattern of downsizing good employees when they are getting close to retirement age. You are paid well for doing a good job, but then over time, because of that, you become a target for cost cutting.
Current top management changes their “go to market” strategy every year or so. They don’t have an understanding of how the flooring business works. Armstrong now is a ship without a rudder.
There are still a lot of good people there, so hopefully, they will be sold to a top notch flooring company that knows the business and can save them before they go belly up.
If you aren’t upper management with a golden parachute, it would be best to not plan on retiring from Armstrong.
Sad what has happened to this once great company.
Pros
Great people other than upper management

Poor leadership

The people are great and make going to work enjoyable. However, constant reorgs and shift in business direction make it difficult to stay positive about longevity of the company.

Poor Management with no sense of of accountability
Staff (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PAFebruary 19, 2018
Armstrong Flooring is a spinoff of Armstrong World. The upper management has their hands in too many pots than they can handle and are highly DISENGAGED. They refuse to provide more resources (money, labor, capital) to their plants because their business is FAILING. Mind you they are competing with Shaw and Mohawk. The plants are POORLY staffed with only 4-5 individual having a college degree over 200-300 workers. They paint a different picture about their organization than what actually it is. They encourage you to challenge status quo but when you do you get shown the door. I would definitely NOT recommend ANYONE to go here. Please look for opportunities where your talent will be recognized and appreciated. There is no room for advancement in a FAILING business. I pray that things gets turned around because a lot of people's job are at risk as they already restructured 80 people out of their jobs including their Chief Innovation Officer.
Pros
Competitive Pay, Benefits, Work/Life Balance
Cons
No Training, No Accountability, No Execution, No Clarity, Mediocrity, Disengaged management

SR Supply/Production Planner (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PAFebruary 8, 2018
Due to a restructuring in the residential sector, my position was eliminated along with 100 other positions within the company. Business has continued to decline year over year over the past 20 years of my experience.
