Enlisting in the Army was a very rewarding experience, I would say. There has been times where it was very challenging but i came out knowing more about myself.

Don't do it it isn't 1 weekend a month 2 weeks a year. It is whenever they decide even if it conflicts with civilian obligations. Terrible advancement opportunities.

Benefits were good and decent pay for the work. I worked with a lot of good people to work with and made a lot of great friends. Leadership was ok.

As with any job, the Army National Guard can be as temporary or permanent as you would like it to be. From my experience, most leadership really focuses on creating an amazing organization to work for, and enlistment or commissioning in the Guard can open many doors to future opportunities as a growing and developing professional. With positions available across state National Guards, you can easily find the field you want to move in to.As you grow higher in rank, you must be prepared to balance civilian and military work in order to meet company and battalion requirements. What comes with that is the ability to provide some of the greatest experiences and training for your soldiers so long as you work hard to make it happen. You will find some of the best NCOs and officer leadership that I have known in my time as a soldier between Guard and Active Duty.
