You can make more $ elsewhere in Aspen. Overworked & Underpaid. Management is currently in upheaval! Insurance is not that good. Employee dining room food sucks!!! Needs updated whole hotel. You get sick a lot not many places to wash your hands, because they are Forbes, 5 star? Not

Lead Banquet Bartender (Current Employee) –  Aspen, COJuly 15, 2019
The Little Nell is a very difficult place to have fun at work. It is a very strict culture at work and has an intense hierarchy or employees. New employees are treated very different by peers depending on time spent at the Nell

Bike and Ski Rental Technician (Current Employee) –  Aspen, COJuly 9, 2019
This is an awesome place to work, but I would like to see a higher rate of pay even if thay meant some of my benefits were compromised. Great if you like the housing or get paid more.
Pros
Ski pass, rentals, housing, great atmosphere
Cons
"Average" (Low) pay, often slow, housing required, rich snobbs

Sales and Service Specialist (Former Employee) –  Aspen, COJune 21, 2019
To be honest, It was one of the worst jobs I've ever had. The job itself was really easy. What made it terrible was having to work with my supervisors. They never seemed able to agree on or set a standard for what their expectations were. I would constantly have to walk on eggshells not knowing if they were going to get upset about something. They just didn't seem very competent.

The atmosphere of the company is almost childish. Ski instructors will act like they're special for some reason. A lot of coworkers from other departments would rather tell you how to do your job than do theirs. It's just a negative environment with no real growth opportunities.

Having said that, I did meet a lot of cool people. The skiing was definitely worth it. I also learned more about myself and what I want in a job.
Pros
Skiing, Discounts
Cons
No Breaks, Bad Management

IT Support Specialist (Former Employee) –  Aspen, COMay 18, 2019
Basic IT Support job / answer/fix daily problems (TVs, computers, sound system, guest issues, phones, cabling, etc).

Hardest part of the job:
. Approximately 80% of repetitive issues that could be resolved easily but are not. Do not try to look further into it or propose a stable solution as you will get a written blame or simply never receive an answer.
. Deal with a non-existing / non-existent manager that you will barely see every week.
. Outdated system.
. Total disconnection between department and HR. Rules asked by IT management against global HR policy.
. Very low wage for Aspen, be ready to work 45+ hours a week (plus oncall) and spend more than half of your pay in housing. Do not complain or expose your issues as "you have the chance to live in the Aspen valley".

Enjoyable part:
. The hospitality side of the job can be nice as you meet and work with some good people.
. Outdoor IT projects
. Face guest issues
Pros
Free lunch, Ski pass, nice colleagues
Cons
healthcare, low pay, no enterprise cohesion, no IT mentality

MANAGER (Current Employee) –  Aspen, COApril 13, 2019
Several Divisions are fantastic to work for. The customers are great as are the employees of the company. The down side is that the Rental Division is in turmoil and tough to stand behind.
Pros
A company to stand behind
Cons
Managers who are not employee centered and take their staff for granted

Pastry Chef (Former Employee) –  Aspen, COMarch 13, 2019
The management is not very good. It feels like you are back I'm high school when you work there. Upper management will talk about other behind their back. There also isn't enough gratitude showed towards the good workers.

You are in Aspen! One of the best places in the world to work.
Bartender (Former Employee) –  Aspen, COMarch 4, 2019
Great opportunity to ski and dine with the rich and famous. For the most part, every is down to earth. So much diversity in the work place. If you get approved for employee housing, it helps with the high cost of living. Be prepared for seasonal work for most. Almost everything shuts down in the off seasons. The company provides uniforms and in some cases meal plans for the employees. Awesome way to experience Aspen!
Pros
Ski pass and meals.
Cons
Off season shut down no work for most positions. High cost of living.

Ski Lift Operator (Former Employee) –  Snowmass Village, COJanuary 7, 2019
After working for the company for 4 years, I've come to realize they care more about profits than their employees. They hire temps at an hourly wage that is $3/hr more than employees who have worked all season and is comparable to employees who have been here for over 4 years. They own the housing buildings that their employees live in and keep jacking up the rent because, "rent in the area is going up and we have to be competitive." The company is two faced; they market about how much they care about the environment but they don't recycle and they talk about being a part of the community however I can't tell you 1 local that's happy with how SkiCo is running themselves. Everything at SkiCo (lift tickets, food prices, rent on their housing) is going up except for employee retention/appreciation.
Pros
Free lift pass
Cons
High cost of healthcare, low pay, employee housing is a scam, willing to hire temps off the street for $3/hr more than current employees.

Director of Purchasing and Transportation (Former Employee) –  Aspen, CODecember 24, 2018
Free skiing on your day off. If one enjoys the out doors, living in the Rocky Mountains is spectacular. Additionally, Aspen, Colorado has intellectual and cultural activities that one can enjoy. Theses are highlighted by The Aspen Music Festival and The Aspen Institute,

Snowcat Operator (Former Employee) –  Buttermilk MountainSeptember 8, 2018
Working as a snowcat operator was a challenging, unique experience. I was well-trained, given chances to grow and consistantly educated in the proper operation of a Prinoth snow at and proper grooming techniques. Other than incredibly low pay for the job expected, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Aspen Skiing Company
Pros
Ski Pass, Fresh corduroy, shwag
