Good pay, grumpy people
Heavy Machines Operator (Former Employee) –  Portage, WIApril 30, 2018
You work non-stop, it's a factory so that's what you have to expect. I was the youngest person there by a longshot. People didn't like young people, many were 40 or up and were probably tired of working there for so long.

its a factory....
Mechanic/Welder (Former Employee) –  New Ulm, MNMarch 7, 2018
ampi is just a factory, everyone who works there hates their lives and just wants to get their shift over and get home! The district manager is another silver spoon baby that has never actually worked a day in his life and is one who believes everything looks good on paper but when it comes to real life he's completely lost. on top of that he's a complete jerk and will chew you out at any time

Could be better but overall if you’re there for the money you’ll Be happy
Floater (Current Employee) –  Portage, WIFebruary 6, 2018
Moving from a different state and coming to AMPI was a bit of a shocker. Manegment is sup-par in the processing department but, the natural department has excellent management skills! There’s always overtime you can grab but sometimes it’s enforced because seniority matter here because of the union.
Pros
Great pay, good workout, two paid 15 minute breaks
Cons
End up being stuck with all the overtime, short handed

Heavy Production Helper (Former Employee) –  New Ulm, MNFebruary 6, 2018
a typical day was blessed with you don't work hard enough and your co-workers can stand around but you cant. Being followed every day. Being told you are gonna be let go daily. Management allowed co-workers to bully one another.

Dont do it
Light utility (Former Employee) –  Portage, WIDecember 8, 2017
Upper management is awful. They don't honor the union contract. They favor certain people and shifts. There's more drama than in a high school. If you do good at your job, they make you carry the weight of lazy coworkers. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere unless you're desperate.
Pros
Some people are awesome.

New management is needed
Machine Operator (Current Employee) –  New Ulm, MN 56073September 6, 2017
The management crew is untrustworthy and favoritism is plain as day to see. Certain rules only apply to certain people based on who likes you best.

People constantly back-stab each other, rumors are started, and people who "whistle blow" get retaliated against.
Pros
The wage is $20 an hour and you only work 14 days a month
Cons
Long shifts, rotating shifts, and management

Disorganized Mess
Production Line Worker (Former Employee) –  Portage, WISeptember 5, 2017
The management, per usual, is the fundamental cause for most of the discombobulation. Despite having forewarning, the scheduling and coverage of areas was appallingly spotty to say the least (one day I was left by myself to do a two-person job while management was completely oblivious to the lack of staff and didn't rectify the issue at all, one of the leads of my line had to hunt someone down themselves to get me help). In addition, certain managers have an absurd habit of micromanaging areas that don't need it which causes more unnecessary stress in the work environment.
Pros
Friendly Employees
Cons
Breaks are only 20 mins, twice a day, which barely gives you time to catch your breathe before you're back at it again.

Not that great of a place to work
Office Clerk (Former Employee) –  Arlington, IAAugust 25, 2017
manager and assistant manager lazy. I did their work and got paid as an office clerk. Allowed harassment to happen with no punishment. I had cancer and was made to feel guilty when I had to take time off for treatment.

Great overall, except for the ridiculous hours and 6 work days in a row
640 person (Current Employee) –  Jim Falls, WIJuly 7, 2017
Be ready to work. The newest people get the large amounts of mandatory overtime. Six 12 hour days in a row. It works off of the seniority rule. So unless you handle overtime for multiple years, you will always see overtime.
Pros
Great pay and benefits
Cons
All those hours that take your social life

Most horrible place ever
General Labor (Former Employee) –  Jim Falls, WIJune 10, 2017
No team work. Employees do bare minimum. Harass new employees till they quit. Management seems to endorse this. Only a 20 min break in 8hrs. Illegal??
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Everything else!

Just Great Pay. Nothing else really to say about the place besides the poor management in the office and unfairness. Some of the managers are a plus I will say that and their part of the reason i stayed as long as I did

Great pay

Field Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Glencoe, MNApril 4, 2017
As a farmer owned cooperative, change is slow and time consuming. Overall, the benefits are god, pay is average and employee support by management is very good.

Rotating shifts are all you work. Management is terrible. Pay is good. Not enough help. Lots of overtime. Have to be good at multitasking.

General Labor (Former Employee) –  Blair, WIDecember 3, 2016
A normal day of work was to assembled and filled boxes with cheese product and did general cleaning of the production area. I learned about the importance of having a clean work environment. The hardest part of the job was the 12 hour long shifts.

Excellent Pay, Phenomenal Upper Management
Production Worker (Current Employee) –  Rochester, MNJuly 12, 2016
Pay is excellent, it's a union job! Benefits are good, not great. You do work hard for your money, but with the new plant manager (he's been there a year or so), the environment is getting a lot better. The recent changes that are happening seem to be for the good, I hope it keeps getting better.
Con: work/life balance! You work rotating shifts and there always seems to be overtime. If you have a family, that stinks.
Pros
Awesome Pay! New & Improved Management.
Cons
Variable / rotating shifts, heavy work. Plant can get hot during the summer.

Work with great people that were always heplful and the work keep you in shape.
Machine operator / general laborer (Former Employee) –  New Ulm MNJune 22, 2015
Work was making sure to keep the machine running and to make sure to always be safe. Days were always challenging cause the machine would always have you finding out new things that can go wrong and new ways to handle figuring out how to repair it. Management was great and helpful with helping solving issues. Left you do our job and never bothered you unless needed to. All the co-workers were nice and easy to get along with. The hardest part of the job was when the machine wouldn't like to run sometimes no matter how you tried to repair the issues with it. Enjoyed always being busy cause it helped the day to go by faster and kept me in good shape.

Working at AMPI was a good experience and some of the workers there seems like they might be mean but when you talk to them and get to know them, you will find out that they are very friendly.
