Working on itself to address real issues
Software Developer (Current Employee) –  Dulles, VAMarch 21, 2018
Currently they are undergoing a needed shift towards agile and it is sorely needed. I can only speak for the technical side so do not infer anything about the business as a whole from this please.

Currently there is a division of work and the current style of projects is a typical waterfall style, now with this agile push they are making waterfall happen in agile nature, e.g. planning the project every 2 weeks with deadlines at the end of each sprint that makes you rush the work.

The code base after being made for order is not check back in on until it becomes a problem or there is a want for an improvement.

Though I imagine if things are seriously taken to change things can be better but from day to day you can tell that things have been changing at a very slow pace.

One such example is the naming of roles. For about 2 months now people have been told repeatedly that all people are equal and there is now no division between roles and everyone should be able to do all aspects of work yet aside from trying for the first week or two at the beginning there has been no change since projects are "in flight" and can not be changed nor tweaks made to the style. Also people have been told to not refer to anyone by title or to say that work is only meant for certain roles but this still has not been held to measure and is routinely ignored.

Although all of this seems to cast a negative light about the company it is a good place to work most of the staff are friendly and willing to help but there is a noticeable "ranking" if you will between different projects, groups, positions,
more... and if you try to "switch" from role to role you are seen as rising or lowering your "rank" to help in efforts which can get aggravating at times.  less

Some divisions within the company are better to work for.
Finance division is very fast paced with high workload. Management and culture of the company has recently changed.

Good work/life balance. Company currently kind of confused about its future. Things move either too slow or attempt to race too fast. Too many people trying to exercise control.

Stable Job with less growth
business analyst (Current Employee) –  Dulles, VANovember 1, 2015
My internship experience was great primarily due to my manager, who was a great mentor. I am not impressed with over all management. Less chance for growth in terms of ranks. A lot of your team mates would have worked for 15 years on average in ATPCO itself. One has take initiatives and leadership to prove oneself.
Pros
work/life balance
Cons
industry - too narrow.

Systems are out dated, still using a main frame for a data set where it is not needed. Company started using a M/F 30 years ago and cannot seem to let go of legacy systems. They tell everyone not to say they are using a main frame...
Poor compensation - lower starting salaries, poor raises.

Poor work life balance.

Took away Donut "Wednesday" and pizza "Friday".

Senior management is tacitly disrespectful to employees. They do not want to succeed, just want to boat to keep floating.
Pros
easy access to facility, free coffee; good for a first job.
Cons
benefits are not that great. poor raises

ATPCO was challenging and rewarding. The pace could be a bit stress full however, the rewards were gratifying. I believe that I have met all of the challenges that I can at this company. This is why I am searching for a new challenge.
Pros
location to work. reduced travel
Cons
limited growth
