PTO is used for vacation, holiday, and sick time. If you call off sick the first 4 days comes out of PTO, then for the 5th day you can use a sick day. As a floor nurse it's every other weekend and holiday, but even if it's your holiday off you still need to work all of your shifts. For example if you work 3 -12 hour shifts per week and Christmas is your holiday off, you are off on Christmas Eve and day, but still work 3 other shifts that week. A lot of PTO is eaten up by getting called off for low census. You get called off in 4 hour increments. So if you work a 12 hour shift you're on the hook all day to see if you're getting called in to work your scheduled shift.
