Always too much work, terrible management
Insurance Verification Specialist (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXSeptember 24, 2018
I do not recommend working here at all. The work culture in the back end is disgraceful, all the insurance verification girls and appointment schedulers are catty, clicquey, and will stab you in the back if they decide they don’t like you. There is no training and then you get in trouble if you make mistakes, even as a new hire. I heard multiple discrimatory remarks made and even threats against other coworkers and when it was reported to the management anonymously for safety they immediately threw me under the bus to the party. Sexual and racial harassment was pretty rampant when I was there and they were in no hurry to change that, very low class employees behind the scenes. The doctors and front office staffed seemed nice, but they were so far removed from the inappropriateness of the clinic.
Pros
Health insurance, free coffee
Cons
No HR support, managers are just as catty as staff

Ophthalmic Technician (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXJanuary 31, 2018
If you're wanting a job where you run around all day long...then this is the place for you. Lots of action, high stress, drama, but I guess overall, you're busy. Doctors are great though, just peers and management aren't the best .

Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXOctober 22, 2017
A typical day at work includes, working up patient's such as collecting medical history, checking visual acuity, and setting up exam/procedures for the physician's. The workplace culture is great. The hardest part of the job is likely the heavy traveling.

IT Technician (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXJuly 1, 2015
Working for Austin Retina Associates was a very good learning experience in many ways! Being part of this company is being part of a family, and a well oiled machine! There are many opportunities to learn new skills on the job, as well as help patients feel at ease about their eye sight and knowing we will do our very best to save their eye sight, or in the least, slow the progression of any degeneration. Thank you Austin Retina for having me as part of the family for almost 7 years.
Pros
Excellent pay and benefits.
Cons
Things can get very fast paced when doctors are over booked.

Yes, the travel days are long. Travel varies by job (most technicians make day trips 1-3 days a week). But the company does take care of it's staff.
