Fast paced varied work, often very demanding.
Start of the day is typical for all SNFs very busy then it tapers off later in the day, usually. If an aide calls in other aides are not willing to cover as there is no incentive to come in on days off. When this happens the nurse is required to pick up the slack, making it a very challenging day. The same is true for nurses that call in. Again no - more... incentive to sacrifice day off to cover for ill or absent nurse, so those that are there have to take up the slack making for a difficult shift. Administration is aware of the issue but are very resistant to make necessary changes such as bonuses f ... - less
ProsWorking in pods of 12 residents. Usually not more than one pod per RN on day shift, and two for night shift.
ConsOften short staffed, mostly for CNA's. Poor, very expensive, health care plan.
