Management favoritism, great employees
Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Raleigh, NCMarch 26, 2018
Baker as a whole has a brilliant team of employees who make it great, management is another story. There are way too many levels of management that don’t seem to communicate with each other. You may discuss the same topic with 5-10 management personnel because everyone wants to be involved in everything.

Management most definitely likes to play favoritism, it doesn’t matter whether you do your job well and are profitable. It ultimately comes down to politics (who you know and who is favored).

If you can stay out of the eyes of upper management, do your job and keep to yourself, than it ultimately is a great place to work. I would work here again one day but walk on glass when dealing with upper management.

Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Raleigh, NCJanuary 20, 2018
Although Baker Roofing has been in business for more than 100 years now, the culture that has been promoted is ultimately customer driven for obvious reasons, however, as a former employee, the culture created did not realize to be very beneficial for employees. Yes, you could qualify for benefits and receive additional training, however the amount of hours required to perform the job responsibilities and duties was burdensome and hyper-exhaustive. Expect to dedicate a minimum of 60-70 hours per week in order to attempt to handle your responsibilities effectively. Do not be surprised to work even longer hours as the push was always to maximize the number of project closures to meet budget. Although "Team Work" was spoken often, it was not realized in actuality. The system instilled was individual oriented and expectations were derived similarly. If you prefer a work/personal life balance, then this company IS NOT for you. Dedication is to the company in spite of the occasional impression otherwise implied or stated.

My suggestion ... think about what will be most important for you before considering working for Baker Roofing. Working here can consume your life.

Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Raleigh, NCApril 17, 2017
I have been at Baker for almost two years and have learned so much during my time here. The company is rapidly growing, and there are countless opportunities to grow and move up. Everyone wants you to succeed and is always willing to help out when asked. One of my favorite things about the company is how friendly and involved upper management is with the rest of the employees. If you enjoy working in a positive family atmosphere, this is a great place to work!

Baker Roofing Employment Review
Contract Manager (Current Employee) –  Raleigh, NCApril 16, 2017
In coming into Baker Roofing I knew nothing about low slope roofing. Baker Roofing took the time to train and educate me all the in's and out's of all the different types of roofing systems and manufacturers. The of culture at Baker Roofing is one of respect. I have always had a wonderful experience in all levels of Baker Roofing management. Everyone has always taken the time to answer phone calls and questions at anytime of the day. This goes all the way from the President of the company down to even the crew members. The hardest part of my job is the long commutes to the daily locations. The most enjoyable part of my job is the interaction with my customers and working to obtain new business.
Pros
Flexible schedule, work from home, vehicle expense, corporate phone
Cons
Long hours, physical aspects.

poor management, way to much family and this can cause conflict. For the most part, great bunch of people who try and do the right thing. Company needs a restructure and culture change as they move into the future. could be a much better company with a few changes along the way...

Should be the destnation place of choice for professional roofers.
Management (Current Employee) –  North Charleston SCJune 24, 2015
Outstanding family oriented company that has one of the best cultures to be a part of in the roofiong industry. BRC has been in business for 100 years with the HQ being in Raleigh NC and the current principle owners have overseen the company since 1969.

Work environment in a remote sattelite office is very enjoyable but it is important that the management team shares the same cultural beliefs as the coprorate office. I believe in times past that may not have been the case and specifically here in the Charleston branch (based on reports from employees that were here through several other management teams) it was not. I have witnessed in my short tenure, a big change in philosopy in the branches to make sure that there is continuity with regard to the Baker culture.

Roofing is always going to be/have hot/cold, dirty, long hours, physical work and demanding schedules and travel. If you are going to stay in this profession, you need to find a company that invests as much into you as you do into it...Baker Roofing Company is that company.

BRC has outstanding benefits (401K (with a match), BCPS medical, dental, etc) but the healthcare costs are a little high for some hourly employees to absorb easilt... but they are available and of high quality.
Pros
Established, supportive, and driven.
Cons
High healthcare costs

7:30-4:30,answer phones, collect timesheets, key invoices, process mail. Learned how to multi task, prioritize and patience. Co-workers were great. Friendly, supportive and like family. Most enjoyable part of the job was the diversity of people that I came in contact with and the long term relationships that were built.

Operations Manager (Current Employee) –  Nashville, TNJanuary 15, 2015
Baker Roofing is a very "team oriented" organization. It has an amazingly personal feel to it for a company that is so large.
A challenging work environment that not only encourages employees to exceed their previous accomplishments, but provide the resources and support to make achieving these goals a reality.
Fast paced, demanding, and above all, a rewarding place to work.
Pros
Incredible opportunities and support.

Excellent Company with 100 years of experience
Career Development (Current Employee) –  RaleighJuly 12, 2014
This family-owned company offers the best company culture I have personally been part of in my 28 years in the working world. Management and the Board of Directors understand what it means to take care of the employee AND the customer which is almost non-existent in the service industry these days. The company puts resources and comittment behind the employees with constant process improvement and training. It is evidenced by the extensive growth of employees and locations over the past 8 years that this company is doing something RIGHT! It has grown to be recognized as the third largest roofing company in the nation and I, for one, am proud to be a part of this forward-thinking organization.
Pros
Excellent company culture, amazing knowledge and skills in the roofing industry, comittment to employees
Cons
Make educated yet cautious decisions about what disgruntled knuckleheads are posting!
